Dan, Bob, Michael, and Calvin: Two. Well let's your call. I don't care. I don't want to do too much tonight. Yeah. I'll say it that way. So is one a pick and one's No, they're one's one last year, one this year. okay. Good Evening hey. How's everybody doing? Welcome to Bourbon Brass and Beyond. Tonight we're doing a little bit of a testing. All fresh cracks. Bob already. I was just trying to get in there. Just pre-open that one. I'll pre-open this one. So we always talk about Penelope has the nicest opening bottles. These things are fancy. Well, I don't they're easy let's do the the estate collection. I don't know, that was pretty Yeah. These estate collection ones are super nice to freaking open. Did you break Okay? Yeah. For a short bottle, I guess. But it's average. Well, good evening. so lots going on. First Like actual podcast backs. Yeah, congratulations. It looks like you had a great time. it was. It was the concerts were probably awesome, let alone the interviews. Yes. Abs absolutely. all great people. Yeah. just yeah, just fun. Well I you know what I I I listened to almost all of the bottle share share episode. It it sounded like you guys had a good time. We had a great time. It was nice people kind of popping in and out. Just yeah, so yeah, and and and Wally was there. maybe that's the other thing. So he did a a single barrel for Bourbon Heritage Month. Okay. That's a great bottle. Yeah. With a label on it, or is it just one of the regulars? It's that one right there. I see it on the left. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Okay. but yeah, that was that was crazy good. And of course everything's food just phenomenal there. Yeah. Had a good time. We're good time. JD was a blast. Yeah. so it was nice meeting him. from the Bourbon Hunters podcast. And the concerts were great. Yeah, it's awesome. So no complaints. But coming home, of course I stopped at Costco. Seven other places. Crescent Springs Tobacco. Let's stop a few more. Right. I actually didn't buy any bottles wise No. Down there. really? I was looking for certain things, but you know. but then coming home at Crescent Springs, one of the things we saw while we were down there was the Heaven Hills master distiller Connor O'Driscoll. Okay. was on a panel with Preston and Trey Zeller from Jefferson's and guy from 1792 and somebody from Angel's Envy. Okay. And they were talking about Preston told us he was doing this. I don't remember he was talking about this. but so each one brought a bottle, but this is a new release from Heaven Hills. It's their double mash. so it's part wheated bourbon and part you know, rye bourbon. Okay. Hunterproof, bottled in bond. It's only been out. They they just announced it at KBF and put it out. So this is brand new. Brand new. But Crescent Springs had it on the shelf. So weird. Yeah. So And it was a forty eight dollar bottle. Okay. Yeah. Let's go. So nice. Let's go. Let's thank you. Yes. Lightboard for me, please. That's why I spill you doing that's why I spill so much is that was the light pour. That's for you. Even their standard bottled and bond is one of those bottles that for the price I agree. Like you you you just can't beat it. Like I feel like everyone needs to have it on the shelf because it's such a easy drinker but with a lot of flavor. Yeah. Actually I have one I haven't opened yet. I get that Heaven Hills nose on it. Yeah. Big night tonight. Yeah, we'll see how they do. Browns, Steelers in Cleveland. Starts here in a little bit. Little bit of ethanol. Again, there I doesn't surprise me. It's a fresh crack. And and the other side of this is I'll say it's a forty dollar bottle. Like I'm not gonna Not gonna have an ethanol after I've said this we get spoiled. Let's say the words. We get spoiled good stuff back here that we end up cutting into, so Proof on it? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Kinda reminds me of that chinkwa bin barrel stuff. Yeah one a little bit. I mean it's got some hug on it. Yeah. That's I got more of the wheat on the nose than I did on the palate. I was kind of expect expecting more of that like grassier taste. But then you said the other mash is like a a high rye bourbon or Yeah, it's their standard high rye. Okay. Yeah, I get more I still get more of that like rye spice initially. You get the rice spice, but even then it's really light. It's not Yeah. Yeah. Do we know how long it's aged? Wait, nine years? Yeah, never mind. So yeah, it's a nine year old. Yeah. Hm. Because even what last year, the seven year age statement on the bottled and bond, that was new, right? Like actually putting it on there. Yeah. I guess I'm just surprised they have this much sitting around at this point. I mean it's the same stuff, but they're doing it every year, so No, I'm getting the corn. I'm getting the mellow corn. That's why I wear my mellow corn shirt. Like we're doing heaven hells. We were I was having a conversation the other day about how this is gonna get really, really interesting, what happens with all these guys who are not putting anything new in the warehouses. But they are not pulling as much out either. There's gonna be a bunch of old juice laying around here in a couple of years. Yeah. How many bars how many barrels are they gonna be selling off? Correct. Yeah. I think that's gonna be the the really interesting part about this is how many other how many other small produ or NDPs pop up through this process because everything's gonna get crazy cheap. Yeah, that's the other side. I agree. Getting more corn. Yeah. Getting a little lighter on the nose. All right. We do so many ryes. Everything's a rye. Is that just the luck of the draw at this point? Well they're all most of them are bourbons, but they have a they have a rye in it. Okay. I mean And depending on the area. These ones what, thirty six we said? Thirty six percent ryes? Yeah, those were those are high rye. Well and you look at it like Buffalo Trace, their mash bill one is only like eight percent rye. Yeah. Mash bill two is like twelve percent. So it's that's their high rye mash bill. So more than that. Yeah. It's like you're going back to the Pennsylvania rye. Monongahela. Damn Steelers fans. I whenever I'm over teaching at Westminster, I stop at the Fine Wine and Spirits. And obviously they have a bunch of those Pennsylvania ryes. But I haven't like visited any of the distilleries or anything and done any research. I was like, I want one. Cause I I I I'm a rye guy. I really love like Penelope. One of my favorites is their Takaji cask rye. But I was like, I really want one of these, but I don't know which one. And you know, my initial thing is like, well I'll get the most expensive one. It's probably yeah. But then I'm like, what or I can maybe this bottle that's on sale for like forty bucks is better or has more character or whatever. So I kinda wanna like my next journey maybe see like what distilleries in Pennsylvania aren't like super far and figure out what is so special. Just do some tasting theory and try to figure it out though too. So Liberty Pole. Spirits is in down in Washington County or Washington. Washington County. And Yin's know where that's at? He's guys going down there. Washington County. a buddy of mine's wife works there, so the guy I I fly with, and I've been meaning to go down and and and do a podcast down there. It's just, you know, scheduling it. but I've I've heard good things about their stuff. Okay. That's cool. Maybe that'll be my first thing then. Yeah. Hmm. All right. What do you guys think? Yeah, nay, meh. Meh. Yeah. I I like for forty dollars. Forty dollars is not bad, but it's really late on it's really late on the and there's no finish and it's Yeah. It's not Eagle Rare. Yeah. Forty dollars. You know, I mean i Eagle Rare ten year is not Well, I mean, it was eight, but still not nine, that's a nine. But for a nine year with a double mash and a high rat well with Ryan there, you expect more. Yeah except more from it. I suppose with how with how good the seven year ball and bond is, you expect more from a nine year I tend to agree with this. Yeah. Okay. I was hoping more from the wheated side, I think. Yeah. Like I was hoping to taste a starker difference. And I'm just going like off of memory because that Heaven Hill bottled and bod standard, like I've had plenty of times. And like like we said, it just always good. But it's not like their most mind-blowing stuff. And like this, I felt like was going to be a step up from that. I think it's as good as the normal seven-year bottled and bond. And it's a little different, but it's not like what I was hoping for when I saw that they were marketing it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I have that. I haven't opened yet. And I did just pick up a Henry McKenna, you know, tenure. And I I know those are hit or miss. You know, it's whether you get a good barrel or or not. I had two of those at home. One's open and we got it. Yeah. I had one and it was not Was that the one we had in my place? Eric was over. I don't We have one I we had there was a night we were over my place and we had some. I I Maybe that's it. It was okay. Yeah. All right. Well grab that grab that tray for me. I'll take your dirties. Dirties. Probably out the new ones. Thank you. Anybody want water? Water? Yeah, fancy stuff. So which one's first? Do last year first? Yeah. So we were talking through these trying to figure out which one was which. They're it seems like they're all the same mash bill. The ones that we've you've got to, I've got two. Yep. They all have the same mash bill. They are slightly different. My last year was 105, your last year was 103. Yeah, 103. And then I think we got the same batch from year, because we got 105. Mine's 105 last year and 107 this year. And they just give us the mash bill right on the side, which I like. S sixty percent corn, four percent malted barley and thirty six percent rye, like we said. that smells nice. Yeah, I was you know, I was going back and forth between the two of They both they they do not have the exact same nose profile. Like I they do you can notice the difference between two of so we'll see what happens. But And this is the estate tenure? Estate tenure, estate collection tenure, and it is this was last year's single barrel. Single barrel. Single barrel. Both of them Twenty twenty five. So they so I ended up buying some of these last year, which is why I have this one. We have the I have the Omega. We have what is the founders that's the founders that's in the box, yeah. 13 year. I think I had one other one too. Yeah. is it the private select ones? Yeah, yeah, there were three last year if I remember right. E I think there were four last year. So then there's also this one. That one. Yeah. Yeah. And I think the private select 'cause that's also a ten year I mean I guess it's a different mash bill, but I I think that's a small batch. Like I don't I think it's it doesn't say single barrel. And this year they just came out with the conundrum, which is their rye mash bill. Did you get one? Mm-hmm. I did not. I haven't seen them around here yet. I really want one. They they had it at the store, I thought, right? They ha which store? I thought I saw it with Hit Chalet, I thought. I've seen on the secondary, I will say that. They've been popping up but I haven't I got to show it but she used to like Probably like nine forty five or so. It's like for a ride. It's like it's like bubblegum? Mm-hmm. On that. I think that's the first time I really get I can say, I get bubblegum on that. It's something you hear a lot. Yeah. From bourbon drinkers, but you definitely convinced my brain that it's in there. I'll say I don't know if it's there, but my brain thinks it is. I had a friend who really loved getting notes of medicinal cherry. And so we used to just always like every single thing. it's way ryer than this one. It is not as mild as the it's not as mild as the nose comes off. No. It's got some it's gonna bite in it. I got some bite, but it's good. Yeah, it is. Yeah. It's funny, when I went in for my drink, I could that's when I caught the bubblegum the most, is when I started pouring. wow. Yeah. Yeah. It's not as like caramely sweet as I thought it would be. It's more vanilla. It's very vanilla sweet, but the the the spice, the baking spice comes out, a little bit of nutmeg. Still like less even though it's what this is higher proof what was this one? Five one five. I mean I guess barely higher proof, but much less like ethanol-y. Yeah. Only one one year difference. which I have found with like the really high rye bourbons, like once you get up to like thirty percent rye, I found that like the nose is sweeter. thin on the powder, it's spicy, but you don't get that burn, the Kentucky hug. That second sip was not a as I almost wanna say overpowering. That second sip for me was much, much nicer. Flavor holds good on it. Yeah. Got a lot of like fall flavors, like you said, like the vanilla, but like with a little bit of spice. Yeah. Is it basic? Are we basic? need new slippers. I bought some hugs. Does that put me in the slipper? Does that put me in the puffy coat? Yeah. Mm. That's nice. Yeah. And these are what, eight ninety dollars a piece, I think? Eighty nine a piece. These are like eighty, ninety bucks. Yeah. should remember it was two days ago, but here we are. Yeah. Eight hours. A lot's happened. It's been busy. Mm. Now are those MGP or did they say where they're sourcing them? I'm gonna guess it's gotta be MGP. I mean I I don't know. Doesn't Penelope or not. Don't they lip list a code? Maybe I'm thinking Ever North. I wanna say a lot. Yeah, you if you track back the mash bill you'll yeah. I think it's largely MGP. Anybody get one of the MGPs yet? Yeah, it it's a pretty bottle. I I d I've not gotten one, but I I think it's a nice looking bottle. Yeah, I'd be curious. I don't know how everybody who sources MGP is gonna feel with MGP putting out their own label putting out their own label and probably taking pick of the litter of the of what they gave too. I don't know I mean, I don't know what everybody's agreements for distillation was like, but at a certain point in that room. you don't want to go in that room. Or everything in there is terrible. Is that the same match bill you produced for me that you've got off that becomes the that to me is so did someone hit hit the nail on the head and they're just like, We're gonna set this aside for us? Correct. Did they go through and taste everything and pick the top twenty barrels every year? Like that yeah. Have they figured out the sweet spot? No, yeah, I d I mean I I mean they are the nation's largest producer of whiskey, so I mean they got the pickets. I they the ticket of the litter. Yeah, that's my biggest question. My guess is this is stuff that they were supposed to probably give to somebody or you know, sell to somebody to be produced and then with this out or they well with this drawdown. Hmm. They would have had to start this process a long time ago though. A year ago, by the time you do label design until you submit to get approved. Yeah. So they they started this a long time ago. And they did it knowing that it was going to be a ten year juice. Like that's the other side of this. It's that the they had to have this had to have been a plan. Yeah. Should have started with the bottleneck. It would have been less fishy. This wasn't a happy accident. This was a yeah. Yeah. Hmm. Oops, a twenty years. Well, it's happened. They've had the Orphan barrels with twenty, twenty-five years. This year's was the Night Sage, which was I think twenty-five years. So yeah, there was plenty of them to pick from. Yeah. There's also always all those those weird barrels and for that matter, we were talking on here one of the couple of weeks ago about what was it, the twenty twenty fives or something were coming out. Which was this? Yeah, like we were seeing them on the It was a special release and it was a it was the twenty twenty fives when we were expecting twenty twenty sixes. yes yeah. Russell's thirteen. Yep, that's exactly what it was. Yeah. So go figure. I mean to be fair, nothing should should surprise us with OHL Q. No. No, but still I mean they sat on that for a while. Yeah, lucky they weren't twenty twenty fours. Yeah. Maybe they were. You never know. Never know. Everybody want new glasses, we sticking with these. I'm I'm good to stick with these. I'm good to stick with these. Okay. This year's 107. I'm interested to see the difference 'cause I did a try between my two at home, but my batch from last year man. Was a little lower proof. Now you can take the big one. So one of the cool things just just made me think about this was when I did the Derek Trucks interview, he pulled out his new the search, the twenty twenty six The Search, gives me a a nip, he takes it, he takes a nip. I'm like, it's good movement. That's pretty cool. Different. It's a little oakier. It is okier. Yeah. You know, for f to You just talked about there's no ethanol on this when I put my nose in it in it. I don't there's Yeah, you don't really that's the part that shocks me about both of these were the same way. Yeah, you could take a big gulp of this and that nose of this and I don't catch an ethanol. Mm mm. Mm, I agree it's okier. Well, and I like that. I I like the oaky. I'm not getting as much of that sweetness that we did on the last one on the nose. No, I'm I'm getting the tobacco, getting the oak. Yeah. All right. I like Grassier? What is that? There is a little grassier on the on like the aftertaste, but it's got more of that cherry cola on the front part of the yeah. Mm-hmm. On the finish. Yeah. I'm getting the grassy now. Yeah. I was gonna say that like that that first Sip on the on on the tongue is is a really nice cherry cola type. Then it does. That it it just goes right to a a grassy. I feel like the nose matches the palate on this one more than the post one. That's absolutely true. Yeah, I agree with that. You don't get as much of the rice you don't get as much of the rice spice, but that also might be because we're going we've already had it. Four sips in now, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's good. And they have the same mash bill, right? Yeah, same exact. no, different proof points. So it could be the same labels as last, but it they're printed on there. So it's not like it's handwritten or anything. So it could just be a year older. Same juice. Both ten years. I mean I guess technically, yeah. I mean it could be eleven. You just don't know. Okay, just sold yeah. Yeah. For all we know, there's it is the exact same juice. They just got the same labels laying around still. But especially with this one, because they're all single barrels, it's just like mine. What it says? Twenty-six or twenty-five dash four six seven. So you're 25 when is that dash so pronounce? it's 24. 24? man, we got three years. Wait a minute. I got this last year. So I'm sure OHLQ. OHLQ. Should have gone to Virginia. I'm sure this was last year's. All right, well. It was last year's in Ohio. Yeah. So we got twenty four. Tag twenty four A just came out for us too. So So that's a twenty four. This one's a twenty five. I gotta double check, it should be twenty six. No, it's yeah 114. Yeah. Yeah. So that you guys have the same. We got them in the same store. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then this one's the twenty-five. This one came in at a lower proof than these because these are both. That's why it's different in proof. That's why our hundred and three. We thought they were both last year's. Yeah. So now we gotta try the twenty-five. Yeah. We got that one. This one, I'm not gonna lie, it ended up being my favorite between No, I'm talking about the private selector. I'm saying I tried these. Look, I have a a closed bottle here. I don't know how so there's no way I compared them, but I do like this one better than Yeah. Yeah. So wait a minute. Six is better than four. Yes. And Oakier. Yeah. And a little bit more smoother and polished I think too. Yeah, I agree. It's much more even on the palate. It's not as hot. It's not I had a friend that swears they like they love the ethanol. Which like what everybody's got their own phone. Everybody loves the button. Yeah. Yeah. They're like that's part of the thing. I mean I guess you're right, but if I can get a great whiskey without that. Yeah. All right. Flavor holds on this too. Yeah. Yeah, it does. So now we're gonna go We screwed this up, right? Split the baby. Yeah, so back to twenty twenty five. Go light with me, please. Ooh, that's a good one. Yeah, keep that one for yourself. Yeah, perfect. Same. Yeah. You don't say it up, huh? Go a little bit light. A little bit light. If you don't say it, don't go light. You just go a little bit light. We all live close. What I like about the estate collection is like I feel like Penelope initially everything was finished. Yeah. Which I'm a fan of finished whiskeys. I know some people are like, no, I I I just want to taste the whiskey, but like, you know, you had the the toasted bourbon and rye. the only thing that was a seemed to be a flop was the rose cask. I never bought it 'cause anyone I ever talked to that had had it, they were like s d no, it's not worth it. Do you still have would you have a Havana? I have Havana, Valencia and I have a creme brulee too. Ooh. When I was first getting the bourbon that those were like what I started with because it's finished and it's like helps ease it in. But I think as you get more into it, you're just like, this is way too sweet. This is more for someone who wants to get into it or this is an More of a mixer. I think the Havana is more of a dessert board. The Havana's more balanced than the Rio. The Rio, it's just like honey. It's either poundy with honey or a poundy with the Ambarana. It's like you're eating a cinnamon stick and so I I think I like a toasted barrel finish, but I'm not a a wine finish person. However, with the caveat that Did try this. And that's fantastic. Yeah, that's a great bottle. I don't know. Have you guys had that one? Okay. I've had it once before. So this one's got a completely different nose than the other two. It's like it's almost like Tarky. I was to say oats or something. yeah. Like it smells like uncooked, like stick your nose in uncooked oatmeal. It is, it is like Apple, cinnamon apple too, yeah. Quaker instant. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. It's weird. Speaking of just before you put the milk in it. I got the single grain series, Frey Ranch. I got the barley hundred percent and the oat hundred percent. So the only one I need is the wheat one. And then we can do hundred percent single grain other grains. Yeah. No, you gotta get the hundred percent rice. You gotta get the JT Mellet. Man, that is different. Wow. I like I think I like this one the best. Right off the nose. Drink smooth too. Yeah, I was not expecting that it's different though. It that's got some weird funk on it. What is that? That one's way different than these other two. Yeah. I like it. You do? I do. What is that? It's almost like And that is not wine finished, you say? Yeah, that's the I this straight bourbon. That's exactly that's the nose I get too. Yeah, they're all just all well I guess I shouldn't say all the estate 'cause the Omega and the founders are yeah finished. But what's the difference I thought the Omega was also a it's So that one's French it's French Oak Stays. They put they put together the barrels with French Oaks and then they have like shavings or something in the It's like some sort of code that they keep track of how long how much impact it's getting or there's something where they're able to see which stave has mi more impact. There's like a whole process to it. Can't explain it. Pretty quick. If someone knows it, please leave it in the comments. Tell me how wrong I am. Exactly. I'm not gonna read it, but please tell me how wrong I am. And then the Founders is just a traditional French finish, French oak barrel. I think that one's good. It is. Yeah. Did you have that one too? Yeah. Yeah. So I think the French when you were over that most things French oak I like. Mm-hmm. Listen, I think that's the I keep I still I haven't opened that maker's forty six cast strength yet. that's a great bottle. I also have The Barge Town. I don't know if I'm opening that one. Is it the Cathedral? yeah. Which is French Oaks too. That one I that one is like I don't there's something about it I don't want to open. So they had a couple Bargetown discovery or collaborative series. You w when you say finished, you're absolutely right. Yeah, it tastes finished to me. You swap this out. No, I in your spare time. You had none but you swap this. I will say if I ever bring a new Riff Balboa rye bottle, it's a Jefferson's cask strength because I broke the cork. And every now and then I forget, I'm like, damn, this rye I don't know what that is. Bathtub? I I like almost like a plum, like stone fruit. Yeah, yeah. It's it's different. It is way different than these other two. I wish it was proofed up just a little bit because I feel like after having these You still like it. I too. I like it a lot. I will say I think out of the estate series or no, that's not an Estate series. That's one of their special releases. Yep. The cigar sessions. yeah, they I I think what I like is they have a bunch of different things. And they're willing to try stuff, they're willing to do something different. I kudos to the listen, it's not 'cause of one of the legacies they gotta carry on their beam label, white label. Yeah. But to see where Penelope started and said where they are now, they were one of The more recognizable brands if you go on a shelf people will recognize Penelope now. Nope. And even like I swear by they're wheated because it's it's a for the price, it's kinda hard to find a better wheated br I think they're like at least when I was down in Virginia, they're like thirty bucks, thirty two bucks or something like that. Yeah. And it's ninety two proof or something, but it's really good. So I'm gonna here. Let's get in your glasses. So I'm gonna share this one because trust myself. So Wally picked this. Now he actually did source this barrel. he did? Yeah. Okay. And it is a Jim Rutledge barrel. all right. And it's only so is how many barrels is it? Just one? Just one. all right. City signs everything for you too. Yeah. That's cool. He's a good dude. Awesome. Yeah. 100.53 proof. Bottle number 14. So Bourbon Heritage Month 2026. I don't know whose is whose. Just don't matter. How much you Yeah, that's plenty for me. So I don't know much about Monks Road. Monks Road is Logstill Distillery. And it is on the grounds of the original J.W. Dant distillery. Okay. And it is and of course the the label or the brand is no longer owned by the family, but JW Wally Dant is the founder and president of Log Still Distillery. And this is his barrel pick. That's super cool. Smoky. like Yeah. Is that what that is? That's so good. Yeah. Almost has like that toasted finish smell. Yeah, it and we we spent two days down there, a day and a half down there. Great experience. They were he was awesome. The property is pretty. They've got I wouldn't mind going to a barrel pick with him. I I this is listen, he and I talked about it on Friday. It it's gonna we're gonna do it. Okay. So B and B barrel pick. Yeah. Yeah. However we have to do it, yeah. I mean we we gotta make this happen. Yeah. Now so They like three or four months ago they did do a a single barrel that was Cheers to Seven Years. It was a seven and a half year old and that was his juice. So that's nice. You know? So his juice is now It's aging at this point. Yeah. And it's all been aging now at in their rick houses. In their rick houses too. so I'm pretty excited. Which are pretty and like I said, that whole property's pretty. Yeah. And then it just stays yeah sweet. It's like that chewy. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry to everyone else, but that might be the best I had tonight. Yeah. Cheers, Wally. Yeah, and it gets what is that that I'm tasting on there? I almost get like an ambirana. Like I almost get that like that different wood taste to it. But I was gonna say some sort of like apricot or something and I'm catching on the sides of my tongue or something. It's weird. What do you think? Thanks, very good. Yeah. Yeah, and I don't know how many he's got left, but I could out of that apricot. Yeah? Yeah, I don't know what it I think maybe that's what it is. But I'm not getting any tartness. No, not not at all. It's like a like very ripe, like soft like like yeah. Just the sugars. Yeah. Yes. Very much. But it's like the it's like a a warm caramel cinnamon that just kind of coats the mouth and then you get that that apric maybe that's what it is, like a a cinnamon sugar, like and then baked apricot. You know, that so the tartness is gone, but it's just that nice warm. Nothing basic about that. No. Get mugs. Pumpkin spice latte. Yeah. You know, I've been seeing that actually at Chalet 'cause one of my friends, he's he's a beer guy, loves beer, big pumpkin guy. and they put out you know, they put out a a whiskey. Like a pumpkin whiskey. And I'm not gonna lie, if there were any any like company that I would be willing to try something like that, it would be them. Yeah. Southern tier. I didn't buy it 'cause it's actually I didn't even see it. I I haven't walked the regular aisle forever. I I always do because let's see what there was like a Spirit there was a sale this month. I d Virginia called it Spirit Palooza, but I got that Nashville single barrel cask string. And it's been sitting there for like seventy bucks in Chalet and I've heard it's worth it, but guess what? Grabbed it for forty bucks a couple of weeks ago. And so there's a couple things that are like, I've been looking at that and I didn't want to buy it at the normal price, but I will definitely be buying it at that price. And then of course, as I walk by the counter, I see a Penelope or two, and then you leave with more than you thought. They did that liquidation and I'm like, there's a couple really good deals on there. And I started looking. So then, like, find it at the nearest location. None of them were in the yes. Like, yeah, every single thing I was into. Yeah. It's like Ashton, Pennsylvania, Worcester. I'm like, I ain't making that drive. Yeah, there was a couple on there that I was really surprised that were discounted, but I was interested in, but no. There were a couple of high west ones I was like, Canton? I could I could make it to Canton and back in between what I gotta do. Right. Mm-hmm. So I showed up to do the bottle share on Friday. We go in and Teddy, who is the manager, the general manager at the Monks Road, I'm starting to set up the computers and he's like, hey, hey, you need to try this. Okay. And he brings it over and This? Yeah, fresh, fresh cracks this bottle. Because you need to try this. Yeah. Okay. And I I was like, Yeah. Okay. He was right. Yeah. Good stuff. Yeah. Then we ended up trying it during the the podcast, during the bottle share. dude, we we did so much. You know, as nice as these cake the old granddad too you took, I saw the half gallon, yeah. 76. It's like a weird thing. I got one of those. You're gonna tell me about that. This is a barrel pick. This is the bourbon hunter's barrel pick. This is J D gave me this. This was their barrel pick. That's some good stuff. I have you we've gotta go there. I heard you guys talking about, yes, because he bought the old Seagram's facility. So I've been upstairs. That's where Oaken Age is. Oaken Age is on the fourth floor of that same building. Yeah. He's a super nice guy. He is. We went and did a tasting experience at the old warehouse that he had. It was really, really good. He's a great guy. And I think I, you know, I it's on the list of things I kicked myself. There was, I think I I have an 11 year old That was, I mean, I think we tasted six or seven while we were there. And we got the Thief Arrow and then he pumped it and labeled it right there in front of you and everything. So it was awesome experience. Yeah. But I kicked myself for not buying another bottle or two while I was there. Like it was one of those things I'm like, it was like on the first day I think we're there. I'm like, I don't want to buy too much on this trip. So I got one bottle and then I afterwards I cause he had a he had a maple finished. Okay. Bottle or a barrel that he had out for us and there was something else too. They were all really, really good though. That guy can pick a barrel. So yeah. Well, I know where it is. Yeah. I wouldn't mind going to get it right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And it was him. It was just him with us. I think there was s seven or eight of us there. So yeah, it was a very cool experience. There's a lot to be said about that too. Like Like even we're just looking at the label on Monks Road. I man, these labels are clean, right? Freshly printed. You can see exactly But like there's nothing like looking at a bottle like the Monks Road where it was pen to paper. yeah. And you see every little detail. And maybe sometimes you gotta squint for like that last little number. Yeah. But there's something personal about it. Well that to me was the nice part about the the Old Louisville is that it's my initials on the bottle. It is I wa I literally watched him write the proof on it. Like he and actually the bottle the barrel we both we we all a couple of us picked from. He even had to check it to see what the proof was because it was a fresh crack barrel. So he was he had to make sure he proofed it right to get it right for our bottles. It was an awesome experience. That's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, but I had a hundred fifty one proof. Who cares? Yeah. Yeah. Right. No, I I think our next step is we gotta go do that, a barrel pick. Yeah. With Wally. Yeah. what else? So we did that. I did the bourbon hunters did a a Jack Daniels barrel pick. But it was a Tanyard Hill barrel pick. Did you get one of those ryes? And I have it. And I have it okay. Yeah. I or no, the oak or the oil. Which one? You're never gonna hear me say no. So you gotta ask someone else if you want an honest answer. Well what else do you want to? So I've got the I also have if if we're down the Penelope train, I've got both of the cigar sessions, I've got both of the private badges as part of it. I'm done. All complaints, email Bob. Done. We know you want more. So all right. This video gets one like we'll make Bob do a five hour stream of drinking. please no. please no. No, because he'll like it. Well as much as I would selfishly like to try that tanyard hill, I feel like that's like a we've had It's different. That's yeah. Well, I I just feel like that has to be the main event and from like after what we've had. Right. Yeah. Right. I would I I would enjoy it just as much. Right. Because who wouldn't? But Well, and they say your palate's gone after about five different bourbons anyway. Okay, so we got at least who knows? Yeah, we got five in there. For scientific reasons. Those guys. Let's see. Is this the twenty that's the twenty five. The the private which I d I truthfully don't know the difference between the private select and the single barrel other than the fact that I think the private select blended mash built. Well no that just means it's so I believe the private selects stores are able to do their own picks and then they get those. And then these are bleeding. So ours were OHL Q picks probably. Probably. but this year's tenure came in at like one two proof. And honestly, even after tasting those, if my memory serves me correctly, like this kinda came out on top. And I I'm noticing just like looking at the label, they have barrel mash bill versus blended. So I I maybe it's just Yeah. They they blend the stuff to get what they want with the private select. Right, yeah. I'll even let you pour it so you can I'm notorious for overpowered. Well they say f they say five, so you know what? We're testing the limit, we're going to six. They're probably wrong. They're probably this they. Right. I can't reach so far. That's what she said. That's average. What are you talking about? That's huge. that's different. That is. This is more caramely vanilla-y. Yeah. And it is a straight bourbon. Blend of straight bourbon whiskey. Tendier. And and it's got like a hint of bathroom soap. Like you know, in the nose. It's got like that that And the palates forgone. Proven. Penelope sponsor us now. So We got some bathtubs, so before or after bathtub. Like 'cause that's that's too totally this is so You know those like scented hand mostly decorative hand soaps that they have in bathtubs. yeah. That's what that smells like. That's like that lavender, like Yeah. This is the seashell soaps that your grandma used to have. Yeah. They're not candies, trust me. So we got 'cause they th their big thing is the four grain, right? Which the the single barrel, that's only three grain. But this, they got seventy-four wheat, twenty rye, five percent barley. This is a wheat? This isn't even a bourbon. It's a Yeah. Five's the limit. Five's the limit. Seventy-four corn, twenty percent rye. Sorry, I was just so focused on five percent barley malt, and then one percent wheat. Yeah, it don't count. So right. It's like that one percent is just to say it's a four grain. I was so focused on that. Like just it really doesn't exist. Just right? Just the tip. Just the tip of weed. But I feel like this is more bourbony than the single barrels because it's a little bit lower rye, twenty percent. Yeah, you that's good. You hardly get a rye spice. You get it on the very you get on the mid palette but it's like at the end. Yeah. It's it's not bad. Yeah, you're right it it sneaks in at the end. I agree. But I it's not strong. I agree. I think of the Penelope's that is my favorite. That twenty twenty six was mine. It's close, but I really like this. It has a little less of an edge. You know, like that ly or that spice edge to it. Yeah. I like that they're different because there's nothing I hate more about buying whiskey than like I can get the less good version of what I want for this price and it's blended. And then if I pay more I can get the cask strength version of what I want and they're they're just different whiskeys. Well these are all single barrels. None of are really ever gonna be the same anyways. Like I mean No, the blends are probably a little bit more consistent, but Yeah, I feel like it's safe to say every twenty twenty six release tastes like this. They still put or they put batch twenty six dash two one. So I guess it could be different, but Two hundred and one times. You know. F sharp, G flat. Right. Same thing. Same thing. I don't know if that one's my favorite. I like the flavor of this one. Yeah. It's got good flavor, I will say that. I was wrong. I guess if we were to have one more. No. Yeah. It does have a very I don't want to say intense, like a very specific focused flavor. It's good. Yeah. Well, let's put that bottle up here. We'll get No. All right. So there's our See there we are. There's your bottles. They're out of order by date, right? no. Yeah, they're out of order by date. And what we dr we Yeah we drank or whatever else, yeah. Yeah, we drank out of order anyway, so Yeah. Six bourbons. That's a pretty good podcast. All right. Well thank you. Yeah, thank you. we are like seven minutes from kickoff. Yeah, kickoff. For the Browns to see how that goes. Play those damn Steelers. That's right. Well, Michael, Calvin, thank you. Thank you. Thank you for sharing Thank you. it's good to be home and back. Yeah. You were gone all week. Yeah. Work. Yeah. Then left. And then worked as soon as I came home. Yeah. Ears plugged up. So I'm like I'm done. My kids came home with it, we all got it. Yeah. yeah. Yeah. That that's Right. Pumping spices popping up, you know, fall season's here. Yeah. Pretty soon we'll see the the you know, what do they say? The Han Solo outfits will be out. We weren't supposed to be wearing those yet? Not yet. I don't think we're wearing my hugs every week now. I don't know though. I I I you know I'm in cold. Like I'm I'm wearing coats and jackets. You'll see me in these shorts and a t shirt. It's Ohio. You'll catch me at a springfield. Five minutes, you'll be f yeah. Yeah. Well, I I I think I think it's 'cause I have lost so much weight that I'm just not must be nice. Yeah. I'm I'm just freezing. I'm listening. Whereas used to be, you know, I'd be in shorts and a T shirt and be like, it's fine. Well, I'll tell you what, I've been working I I've been pants and sweatshirt all freaking week. I've been it's been cold cold. But I like I like to be able to work and get ready. really? Lo yeah. Low of forty I saw one day. What's the game supposed to be tomorrow night? You going to the game tomorrow night? I'm not tomorrow night. They're away. Where where are they at? Jackson Milton? yeah. Which I guess is like away. what? Yeah. Well, it's it's closer for us. Yeah, it's away it's not really away from where we are, but it's d everything's away from New Mill. It's gonna rain overnight tonight. Saturday's low is forty seven, Sunday forty nine, Monday forty six, Tuesday forty one are the lows. See, I love it. High this is my first year back here from Virginia. It's time. No, there's a day of seven. I'm tired of ninety something this, ninety something that, all the way through October. I'm ready. I can't wait for end of October snow. I can't wait for Ooh, I'm I'm so ready. So I thought I was gone for Bahamas. I don't know. I was gone for over a week. Come home and nobody mowed my grass. None of my neighbors mowed my grass. Listen, I I I I have mowed my grass. This is no lie. I'm usually at at least a once a week mower. This year, I have now mowed my grass twice since the fourth of July. I'm mowing your grass twice since twice. You may set that up. I mowed it the week before Fourth of July, and then I've mowed it twice since. Just not growing in long enough or combination of rain, combination of not growing, combination of tornadoes. Well, listen, I plus just busy. Yeah. Yeah. Well that's been my thing. And then Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we'll see. Yeah. I guess maybe I should mow this weekend if you're due. So Sunday. I'm gonna mow too. So Sunday morning I gotta change the radiator in the car. The GL, the the SUV. Yeah. Leaking. It's cracked at the I saw you in it the other day. Yeah, while I'm driving it because the Tesla is down. Shut up. Yeah, it it has you're due. We were driving home from Louisville and got a low gearbox fluid message. And of course Tesla can't get you in until three weeks later. Six months later. So I have they it goes in on the twenty sixth. So I've got to drive something. Take a gallon with you, top it up if you need it. Yeah, but I I drove the convertible to work Tuesday. Yeah. You know that. No, twist my arm there. But you know, once it gets cold, I'm not taking that thing. What kind of top's on the inside? It's a hard top. It's a why you just don't have real. I don't care about that. I don't it's just I don't want to take that out. That's a summer toy. Yeah. But so yeah. Like when it rains it pours. Yeah. It's life. But other than that. Always something. Yeah. So thanks guys. Yeah, thanks, Barry. Appreciate it. Go Browns and I gotta go. Kickoff is about to happen. Yeah. So Thanks for thanks for watching.
