Dan And Bob: Good evening. How's everybody tonight? So, uh, a lot, a lot of, a lot of giggles. It's been a fun, fun weekend. What's it like to be on like a hiatus right now? You got shut down. Yeah, well, we did pretty well. Yeah, we did pretty well. Although, um, I think Steph's got an angle on a, on a little, on a few. So, so I, we did a podcast last night talking about our trip. Okay. â And up with 28 bottles. That's a good problem. â Yeah. a problem. was. Cart fills up fast. Best birthday ever. Derby week. â Derby They had a lot of stuff out. A lot of places â and It's good though. Yeah. Pretty excited. We've got, we got a lot of stuff to try. I've got like three different old Forester 117s to compare. I mean, we've, we've got, now we've got the Jack lineup to compare. got a Willet. Oh, we've, we've, we've got a bunch of stuff. Yeah. Found the 2025 Keepers. So we can do a little. Do all of those. Yeah. But tonight we are doing. Yellowstone. Yellowstone. So on our trip at Revival Vintage Spirits, we picked up a 1971. So distilled in the fall of 1964, bottled in the spring of 1971. So it's considered a six year. Yellowstone, 100 proof, bottled in Bond. Old school. Old school. This was the number one selling bourbon in the United States. And then they shut down. Then they shut down. Listen, I think that there was a whole run there where they weren't the only ones. The big guys survived. think. Well, they got bought by Schenley. Yeah. You know, so they were they went the same path as J.W. Dant, except J.W. Dant brand got. passed along and now owned by Heaven Hills. But Yellowstone was originally started by J.B. Dant, son of J.W. Dant. they're all in the same family. They all bottle. I was gonna say all of these have a beam name on them. Yeah. Yeah, it's everybody's related. And beams and the Dants married. â And why the Dants are still close to the beam family. So the original Yellowstone was bottled at Cold Springs Distillery, which is right across the road from where we stayed, JW Dant. Yeah. But we were touring the property, we're actually on the property that used be the Cold Springs Distillery. Beautiful. Oh, it's beautiful down there. Yeah. But that eventually became the Danton Head Distillery when they, when they merged all the operations and then eventually being sold first Armand Hammer and then to Schenley in 1962. And then in 62, Schenley stopped the bottling operations in Gethsemane and transferred them all to Old Stag and Bernheim. So that's where those been sent and sent well in between. then this one probably would have aged. â no, this was nevermind. talking history. So the brand itself â now owned by Luxco and the that Steven Beams out of which is Limestone Branch is doing a collaboration with Luxco using that brand. But it did take the family back to Limestone. Now, interestingly enough. Have you stopped? Did you stop there when you were down there? No. Interestingly enough, it just came out in the last couple of weeks that MGP, controls the distilling â at branch was stopping distilling there. Yeah, everybody is. They were the last to â Officially announced but it sounds like everybody's done. I'm actually surprised They do so much contract. I'm surprised that they distill for a bunch of ever. They've made the decision to shut down I can't help but think that if Somebody else wanted to continue I guess they're gonna say at this point But turning everything out there one or two is not worth it and they have so much bourbon sitting in the sitting in warehouse That they're just paying tax on yep Yeah Tonight, our lowest proof of our Yellowstone series â 93 proof. This is a four year, it's an OHLQ pick. â OHLQ number one. This was picked October â 2019. It is signed by Steven Beame. Mine gets the fake imprint is what we're saying. â Maybe, but that is a pen. It does look hand signed, I That is hand signed, president and distiller. Steven Beam. Now the interesting thing about this is a four-year-old, they started distilling in 2015. So this is a first batch run of the now Yellowstone. And I've had this for a while. Yeah. You said three, four, five, 10 years? Well, 2019. I would say... Seven years? Yeah. Smells good. Burbany. I would say it's kind of nice. Nice aroma. It's not too ethanol-y. Now, of course, this has been open for a while. I do get that little bit of that beam note. But must be the yeast. Because I know that they all... They're all using the same. Yeah. Yeah. Because the original JW Dant yeast and Yellowstone yeast, they were all the same. Yeah. â And Beam yeast, they were all... Hmm. Got a little funk in there, but not bad. No, a little pepper. You can taste the rye. For a first run, for a four year age statement, that's not too bad actually. No, it's a little hot. You get a little bit of that Kentucky hug. That's what I was expecting was to get blown away with. Because it's so young. Yeah. But no, it's got a nice flavor, nice caramel. You get a little bit of a breadie. I'm not blown away with it. agree with the little yeasty it. It's got good legs on it. It's actually got a really nice finish. mean, the flavor stays. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, not bad. it two brothers or two cousins? The beams that... I think cousins and they are also Wally's cousin if I remember. Yeah, because Wally from that branch of the line. Yeah. Mmm. That's not think it does taste a little young. think it does taste I Mean again, we're spoiled, but I yeah Yeah. I like it. Yeah. I do almost get like a â nose it. I don't know. It reminds me of the Shanks. Okay. But still, that's not derogatory. That's I was going say, compared to Chang's, that's a compliment at the same time. Especially for something young and new. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. He's keeping you. We're pulling this. Yeah, we're pulling this. So that is the four year old. Which way are we going? And then these two are both eight year olds. Pick it. And this is a six year old, but I think I want to save the old Dusty for last. So we'll go up and proof a little bit. This one is 102. This is your single barrel select. This one I got out of New York Evans Wine and Spirits up there. I up that way so we stop every time we're up there. What I would say is that that is one of the nice parts about going to New York is that it's not a far drive and they actually have a really, really good bottle selection program up there. And nice because I don't get many I'll wipe that up for you. Don't worry. Take it from your steps. worry. I've been waiting that one. So it is, mean, you go there, they've got eight or 10 barrel picks at any given time. And I think that they do a lot of different stuff. Like this is the first one of these I'd ever seen. So. â that's got a great nose. Yeah. cow. Sweeter, butterscotchery. Yeah. Like an old Werther's candy. Yeah. We were on Saturday night and they them up front. had to get one of my own. â Yeah, that's â that poor fresh crack. Yeah, that's hard to believe because I'm not getting any ethanol on that. got â legs on it. It's a 102. 102. But, well, cheers. And this was from last year, right? I got this last year. Wow, way more mellow. Just touch, â just touch of baking spice and â cinnamon the back of the tongue. But so smooth going in. Barreled September Hmm. nice. Yeah. more than the first. Right. I would say it even drinks less proof. Why? â agree with Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's good. Oh, I can't get over that nose. It's nice. Yeah. Wow. I would say that that would be like a hard bottle to put down. mean, that's... right that it drinks way low. mean, a nice, smooth, easy pour. You're right. Yeah. Keep going on this boy. Look at that. What way to hold some glass. I'm impressed. Yeah. That's fantastic. a good find. I opened this a long time ago. That's on the nose. Yeah, that's really nice. I'm getting a little bit of the fruits now on the nose. a not cherry, but I would say. I don't... See, I'm a more of a stone fruit on that. Like Yeah, I think you're right. Raisiny. I don't even know. I'd go stone fruit. Man. I don't think you go wrong with that one. That one was super nice. We need to get back up there. They got some fellas sitting around with two one two. Holy cow. And pick collection. Yeah. I said, I had not seen one before and â was down there. It's one of the places we just happened to randomly stop while we were down there because it was like literally half mile down the road from where we were passing through. We're like, â let's stop. And I'll tell you that their gift shop is nice there. We didn't do a tour or anything, but they've got a nice little bar and everything else set up. now that's a nice tab. â All right. Yeah. I really like this bottle though. It's pretty. It's almost a decanter. Yeah. we wanted it to stop. We did a couple years ago over the summer. Just when we moved in here, we did that whole big RV trip out west. Five kids in an RV. I'm either impressed or sad for you. I don't know which one I am. Four weeks with the kids, week and a half, just Steph and I after that. I mean, was the kids had a blast. They loved it. They actually got along pretty well. It's a nice trip. You got to see a lot of cool stuff. We spent four days at Yellowstone. And I do appreciate the fact that they still contribute so much. And if ever read the story of when Yellowstone started, it was because were making Yellowstone the new national park. â So this was â a big push. for Yellowstone and that's why they made Yellowstone Bourbon. And they still contribute a lot of money to So I that. This one â the eight â 110 proof. It's a barrel or anything like that. But â it â is recollection honoring classics. â celebrating heritage since 1872. Nice, nice, nice part. You're gonna spill. I ain't got lucky. Yep. Good job. we got a picture, we got a great picture and I'll post it on podcast of us in front of that, on the bridge that overlooks that waterfall. And â it's one our pictures. I was just at it the other day and the kids now look so young and that was just two years ago. They look so small. â how fast time flies. Yeah. â Mmm. Okay, I'm getting more bread, more rye. I almost say grape in there too. A little bit, yeah. This is like a... Yeah, maybe a little more of that ethanol. And it is a fresh crack. Alright. â wow. lot sweeter than what I was expecting. Yeah. And immediately on the, on the pallet too. Yeah. I got caught as soon as I took a sip. would say I get the stone fruit in the, in the pallet, but It's like a honey sweet, immediate honey sweet. Hmm. That's, hmm. I like it. do. I do like it. A little bit more ethanol-y than the last one. But it was a $70 bottle. And for eight years old, the $70, I mean, it's below the $10 per year, that works out. Hmm. I think that. I like it on the tongue. Yeah. Same thing holds a glass really well. actually really, wasn't expecting much out of this. are, â we're these lower proofs. mean, at the end of the day, none of these are all that, I mean, we're topped out at 110, right? Like none of these are what I call high proof, but at the same time, I think they've got, I mean, they've a good flavor to them. They've got, I mean, all the things you ask for out of a whiskey. Yeah. â Hmm. That's pretty complex at the end of the day too. I'll agree with you. I think it's a little bit spicier. still think, I if we're going, I'm not gonna be able to compare this compared to the dusty, but I mean, I think it's better than this one even. I mean, it's got more time in a barrel, Yeah. And not that the first one was bad. No, no, no. It's just that. Yup. Yeah. I like the age on this. Yeah. You start to just get a little bit of the oak in the wood. Just a hair. Which I didn't get on the... The private select, but I agree that private select was great. But this has got that nice Yeah. Mmm. I'm liking the nose more and more now. Yeah, I agree. I just caught a whole bunch of like charry marshmallow on there too. Which one? You go back to Wallisville? You going in order? Yeah. Yeah, that's the best nose so far. last one? â I think to point, this one wasn't super crazy or hot or anything else, but I like the palette. Super nice on it. So far, the Private Barrel Select is my favorite in taste. This is my favorite But number one selling bourbon in the US. It's one my birthday presents. Thank you. Thank She's around here somewhere. I love Dusty's. â Listen, the idea you said they had a case of this. They had two cases. Jeez, â man. Two cases. Who had this hiding in a basement back alley? â Something the tax stamp is an amazingly great shape. The the bottles in great shape like it looks like everything like you would expect out of a guessing that they opened the case â the first time â put it on the shelves down at revival. Crazy. Yeah, â know we â heard some of these guys keep stuff around. I'd have a hard time believing they had this just sit at the distillery and gave it up for that. I everything is for sale for the right price, but. Maybe. somebody had to have this private. Right. they're still. Yeah, there's still with 20 bottles left down there or 20, 23 bottles left down there at revival. Sitting, â mean, I to make a run now. Yeah, I mean, I'm to try it. â I'm to try it. mean, â if if it's something to. And we'll be right home about we might be running back down. â By way, Brad Bonds, the guy that runs has said whenever we to schedule. All right. to go down to do a podcast. I think- They got this stuff sitting around. Let's go next weekend. Yeah. We might have to. Hmm, classic old twist off. Thank you. yeah. can smell it now. Super butterscotch. Like has got more butterscotch on it than butterscotch does. Like grandma gold candy turned up to 11. my gosh. Yes. I'm excited. Butterscotch. A lot of it. Not ethanol-y. None of it. I mean, this is a fresh crack of a- Yeah. One million year old. 55 year old bourbon. Yeah. So, and that was distilled in 64. older than that since. â So it's 60 61 years. So we talked about the Arminiax and how good that Yes, 48 year nose was and how much we liked it. This thing is unreal Yeah, but I I'm even afraid to try it at this point I mean that nose is so good gonna pour back in there. No That might be my favorite dusty nose yet. I can't believe how much butterscotch it's got on I agree 100%. Did try it yet? You first. Go. Get a little bit of the rye. Yeah, tiny, tiny bit though. Yeah. But just. Butterscotch, I mean, it is just screaming old Werther's and. It's like the butterscotch that they used to put on ice cream at the at. It's insane. the Dairy Queen. know, like the old butterscotch pump. I mean, like. Fake butterscotch, it's so butterscotch. Yeah, so my great uncle had a Dairy Queen. I remember sitting on the counter, my legs dangling, I could chocolate malts, I'd make my own ice cream cakes, but that butterscotch pomme, this is pure butterscotch. Wow. That's insane. Because you know when you eat butterscotch, you get that butterscotch taste in the back corners of your mouth. Great legs. lasting finish. down into that and it's not... Man. I'm always impressed by these. I think we gotta... a case? man. I think gotta get at least. Yeah. At least another one. We're going to need you to work some magic and get some deal better deals. in the ready. Yeah. Listen, you got to do what you got to do to get the price down on some of these sometimes. I smell this all day. That is good. Super easy to Hunter proof, but wait, well below that. this is this is less. No ethanol, no nothing. less. Drinks down below that 93 proofer. It's so good. This is dangerous too. â Man great fun. is a score. Yep Absolute don't let them see this This is â if you're this will do not drink that do not buy this We will we will take it off â the â man. How much can I get for a firstborn child? Do we have to work this out? think no matter what it is, it's fair trade. Hey. Wow. You said you didn't want to finish it on. nose is crazy. That is just. â I love the nose after, you know. â There's nothing to not like about this. No. And is why it was the number one selling burp. Listen, if this is what the app. So be curious where this was actually distilled and bottled and and barreled at. it was going to be Old Stag or It Louisville Owensboro. So it doesn't say distilled one and barreled in the other, it? Nope. got some of the It's got the bottle and bonds. Yeah, it's just clamor. All this says is distilled and bottled by Yellowstone Distillery Company, Louisville, Kentucky DSP KY 240. Who was DSP K, hold on. it. â E dash K. That is the Taylor and Williams distillery located in Gethsemane, Kentucky. historic distilled spirits plant number is associated with pre-prohibition and later post-prohibition production in Kentucky's Nelson County. â they moved that DSP number up to Louisville. Yeah. â But in the old day, well at this point it would have been moved. But... Man. So this was the Cold Springs Creek distillery, become Taylor and Williams. But, â Man, what a find. a find. lucked out. Such an easy drink. Yeah. That's great. find. Listen, is a good lineup. They surprised me. Yeah. We're doing Did you the shot? We did. This was the other find. Dusty dusty. So this 1972 so it's actually â a year Splash. Good. Do you like it? I love it. this one. Oh, I'm still getting that finish from that Yellowstone, which is really nice. But this one, look at the legs on this one. This bottle is unreal. I'm in love. didn't I just was it here we were talking about how much I love the bottle of tailors? Yeah, yeah, you were. Yeah, it was here. Look at this thing. Now smell that nose. I love this bottle. mean these actually might have been bottled and barreled â the same distillery. â Hmm This one might be a little bit more oxidized than that one was. was sealed. don't know. Yeah. Or just just a â little â sweet. it's more of a caramel than a than a butterscotch. Yeah. yeah, a little floral too, think. Yeah, that's I said. And if you look at the legs on that, that is just fantastic. you That's just so good. Yeah, it's real good. So whereas the other one was butterscotch, say this is Caramel. And think they're both comparatively Yeah, I would agree. They've got a little bit of dusty on them. Yeah. Man that it's the palette on this I think is even better than this one. Yeah, I don't that's hard out of this world, right? But I think the palette this is Mmm, not what modern Taylor is I'll say that for sure Hmm. crazy. Nice. Yeah. Great find. Great find. This is a great trip. I'm so glad you went off a camera. Yeah. thanks babe. Great Mmm. So Huh. So than that, didn't do much this weekend. â you even you didn't even stay for the derby down there. You were home before. â Yeah. we had to get home for that dinner. Yeah. You know, was a 0 % chance I expected you. â I Lisa as soon as like I'm like, there's no way they're going to dinner on Saturday. Yep. We made it back. I'm impressed. Got here, pulled it. So we picked up the dogs a little after five, got home, jumped in the shower. Left the house at 551. You were there before us for that matter. Yeah, in the parking lot at six. We made it. It was tight. was tight. It's a great lineup tonight. Great lineup. I'm actually very pleased with you're telling me all you know what they're doing. Is that what we're saying? Yeah. And I don't like Jim Beam, so to speak. Correct. The taste. I think there's a beam funk that I don't like. But Stephen knows what he's doing. And I think you learned from the best is what we've also learned. That's crazy. Yeah, that 1971 Yellowstone is just fantastic. That definitely. Yeah. Great choices, take a vacation. Take my money. Yeah. That was good. Real good. Well, thanks for watching tonight. Please like, share, subscribe, follow, leave comments, please. Let us know how we're doing, what we're sharing.
