Dan, Bob, and Calvin: Good evening. How's everybody doing tonight? Welcome to Bourbon Brass and Beyond. We gotta cut that first part. I guess we can. Blooper reel. Yeah, blooper reel. That's always good. Welcome back. It is an exciting night here. Bob has found a bottle. Curred oak. Surprise. Curred oak. Colonel Taylor cured oak. Let's see. Not the old version, it's the twenty twenty six version. This bourbon is aged inside oak barrels made with staves cured for thirteen months. More than twice as long as typical barrel staves. Hmm. Does it have an age on it? No. Doesn't. Believe what you want online. Doesn't matter. Yeah. Hunterproof, bottled in bond. Tax grip and everything. We opened it just to let it air out and 'cause we all wanted to smell it. It smells pretty good. Smells really just a fresh open. Yeah. Yeah. Bob, I I Yeah, whatever. I think you're gonna do the honors. I'm gonna throw a bunch on your table is what I'm gonna do. Yeah, and I'm gonna laugh. Gurgling out, It's you gotta do that. No, that's good. Thank you. So Somalier pour you know? Let's go. Man, it smells good. Gotta season my my towels. Yeah, I got two here too. We're just curing milk too. Yeah. I so the nose is really nice. Sweet caramely vanilla. Yeah, it's really nice. Yo. Toffee. What else is in there? Like a butterscotch. Yeah. It's got all of the caramel yeast cousins. Yeah. And there's no ethanol on this. No for And we're back. Hey, how's you doing? Good, good. So this would be technically, I guess, take three, maybe. Can you combine these or what? What's the yeah, I'll combine them. Yeah, well I'll I'll figure it out. But it's good. this is this is fantastic. You know, I didn't after four grain, five grain, nine grain, my take was that I don't think these things are all that great on the first crack. I to your point they it got better. I didn't have high hopes on this one because I've also heard split reviews on this thing too for that matter. But I'm pretty darn impressed as the nose is really, really nice on it. Yeah, and I like the oaky stuff. You know, I do like a nice oak. Well there's problems. There's the problem. Power's going on and off. There's no storms today. No, that's not until tomorrow. Enjoy flying. Enjoy that. Fly through that a couple of times. Man, I like this. Yeah, I do. Well, this is expensive, but now I'm like, it was worth it. So this feels good. Yeah, that's a that's a that's a bit for. Yeah. And I'm glad you got it, because you know, we did we got the four grain, you didn't get to go. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sad I missed a trip, but not that sad. Like that's a long drive back and Calvin kept me out. Calvin was stuck in the stuck in the car with Calvin. Man, it's a bad time. I still think it's funny how small town this place is that I stumbled across somebody else that was with you guys in the ride like two days later. It's crazy to me. Yeah. Man. I like it. Listen, at a hundred at a hundred proof it's an easy drink. Right. Holds a glass better than I would have expected too. I like it. Hmm. I like this a lot better than that Heaven Hill ninetieth. Yeah. yeah. I'll agree. You know, and that was good. This has got what is that other thing in there? I think it's cardamom. I I think I get that from the the It's gotta be that pure on the oak, right? Like it's nothing else. It's not the It really lasts for me too. Yeah. But I think, you know, there's a there's a number of places that do that. I don't know what it is. That the they let the yoke age for an extra. So do they just work to deal with Independence Dave or cause they're not making their own barrels. They get Yeah. I wonder if they just said, Hey, you got anything laying around in the nooks and the crannies from back in the day. Well, I I just think that, you know, when they cut all the boards and they they let age normally for what, six months? I think that's the normal time. They say, Hey, just put leave some sinout extra long. Yeah. Yeah. Do us a favor. And you don't get there's like no bite on this. Like there's no it is it is smooth. You get a little bit of the the heat, but in the back of the throat. I think you just get it at first. That's let's put this on the list of once this thing sits open, does some of that fall off too? Like I let's come back to this in two weeks and say, Hey, yo, yeah, this is even better at this point. Yeah, I think Yeah. Great legs on it. Yeah. I'm gonna say this is a win. I I I think that's a win. There's no doubt. Like I I don't even know what the you know, like what you can do to to compare with that. Like I feel like I mean in in terms of the other tailors, I think that this is some of those small batches are so good. Like those are Yeah. I mean, but the hit or miss or however. But I mean I I think barrel proof is too hot. Like I I mean your only chance might be a single barrel, but I I know these barriers. Did I say small batch? Yeah. I meant the single barrels. You're right. This is good. So I stumbled across something else. The Heaven Hill nineteen year? Yeah. Is that the wheat whiskey? This is the Kentucky Strait Wheat Whiskey. I mean, I feel like you have to up the game if if if you're gonna have something else that it's gonna be hard to compete with. Yeah, we're not gonna follow that up with Castle and Key. Table of shame. Table of shame. So Eric Eric sent me a text the other night. Okay. And he was like, Hey, what do you know about this Chestnut Farms? Single barrel. And I had to send him back a picture of it sitting on the table of shame. And you know what? It's not always fair. Maybe it was a fresh crack when I had it, 'cause I didn't have much of it. But it immediately do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars. Yeah. So maybe it has gotten a little nicer. Maybe not.
