Dan And Bob: Good evening. How's everybody tonight? Welcome to Bourbon Brass and Beyond. It's snowing. Listen, it was 60 degrees when I took my son out to the bus this morning at 720 or so. And it's now snowing, snowing. I took Logan driving. Oh, first time to snow? First time to snow. that was, was, was good. Good experience for him. But yeah, not ready for this snow again. I think it's supposed to be here for a couple days too. Like it's supposed to. Yeah. Yeah, this is a nasty. Yeah. I think I saw up to three inches tonight. I gave a whole dissertation on the weather earlier, but out of anger. Yeah, pretty much. But tonight. Russell's. Back to Russell's. Russell's Reserve Night. a special one. Yeah, I'm excited. And we've got a 10-year. I ⁓ think start with the 10-year, right? That's 90 proof. Wild Turkey. So one, this is a newer one. there's a big distinction between these two bottles. Okay. And it's the barrel entry proof. ⁓ Okay. So they changed the barrel entry proof 2015. So it was 107 prior and it was now, I don't know what it is. think not a 125. So that's why this one is special. Just found that. It's a good deal. I was gonna find. I'm actually really excited about that one. Now neither of these have been opened. You can see us fight with the plastic. It's always the worst part of these, right? Yeah, there was a perfs on that. thought I saw. Yeah, there they are. Can't just do what Wally does and put a pull tab on it. Yeah. you, Wally. All right. Thank I can smell it. Yeah. Yeah. literal fresh crack fresh crack and it's still yeah it's still nice. So we talked about this the other night. I think that the... I do like the lower. go back and forth. We had some after that podcast the other night, we had some lower proofed stuff that are some higher proof stuff that we both ⁓ agreed is still really, really good. Right. I think it's got to be the right stuff at the right time. ⁓ I think the stag, I think they drink really hot. And that's what surprises me. some of it's the rye. Still though. ⁓ this is really nice though. I really like it. So we have an old Dusty in the Wild Turkey and I really like this. This reminds me of that nose. Yeah. So this must be like a little bit of a throwback. Yeah. this is 10 year Kentucky straight. Signed Jimmy and Eddie. ⁓ Yeah, think that I mean, this has got a typical what I would expect at a Russell's and. Right. It's easy to drink. little brighter ⁓ the nose. The nose is a real sweet dark caramel. There's a little bit on on the on the palette. Right. I get a little bit of the. The floral on this caramel and a little bit of the definitely get the caramel. I know. I get the caramel one on my left nostril, the floral on my right. I would say that the rye on this, bite on this is a little bit more than I would expect out of 90 proof. the pepper. Yeah. Pepper finish. I say it's more of a light sugar, so more probably more of the butterscotch. Yeah. ⁓ I ⁓ I mean it's nice. Hmm. Yeah, a nice drinking bourbon. ⁓ I like it. I think it's got a little bit more rye flavor to it than I would have. I don't know. Not a long finish. No. And again, fresh. I don't know. Right. It's not always fair. We'll check again next We'll find another one. Let's circle back around on it. That's nice. So this one, I don't even know if it's ever been out of the box. Yeah. So it comes with that. There's a slide in the front distilled in 2003. Nice and dusty. Literally. topper in there to hold it still. Bottled in 2020. It's 16 years old. source is the Tyrone warehouses. Let's see, 89.5 proof. ⁓ barrel entry proof was 107. Okay. So I don't know if it just. they proof it down or do they have it at low warehouse point where it more alcohol than you Yeah, well I think if they're selling this as a special box, I have feeling this wasn't. This is probably in a better spot in the warehouse, Rick, is my thought. But I mean, I guess we see, I assume it's proofed down. Mmm. this. ⁓ yeah, much okier. The colors not that much different. ⁓ I was just gonna say it was darker. a smidge, but just looking at it this way, I don't... ⁓ yeah. Yeah. I just noticed the legs on your glass too. Yeah, that's nice. Yeah, I think this is a little more subdued on the nose too. Yeah, a little bit of the char. Yeah, some pepper in there too, I think. ⁓ wow. Wow, that's Way smoother. Less bite. I mean, that's ageing a barrel, have to assume, but. Oh, that's like that. Actually reminds me of that 1948 JW Dant Yeah. That taste and that char. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, I agree. That is like an old dusty. Well, kind of was, I guess. Not old, but a dusty. dusty. Yeah, I I... ⁓ Hmm. Yeah, that's nice. I like it. I mean we just opened them both and this one's way like, I don't want to say subdued but more mellow. Yeah. Yeah. It's got more years in the barrel. Yeah, man I'm how much different that is. It's good. Yeah, that's really good Not that other one was bad. No. Yeah. Yeah, this one's better. Yeah a lot better I know if I get the butterscotch on it, but I'm stony. Maybe a little bit of leather in there. It's a I get the leather almost like an aftertaste. But I definitely have... I almost thought I got just a little bit of mint there too. I think that's probably on a lot of these, right? ⁓ Man. So my first sip, I got a lot more of caramel. That's probably compared to the previous one. My second sip. I'm getting more of the oak the leather. The flavor holds. Yeah, it holds. ⁓ just stays right there. And sometimes how, you know, just kind of like migrate back finish and just goes fades away. Yeah, that's a good one. Hmm. That's a good find. nice bottle too. I just noticed the same. There's a boss writing on it. Yeah. It's the it's really weird though. Like a lot of these bottles are identical. Is that a notch for the box? I think it's a no. They both have it. It's a it's a notch of something or raised something but. I like this. Yeah. Yeah, I'm telling you, the more I drink it, the more and more I think it's like that 1948 JW Dant. It's got that. That nice char aftertaste that just sits in the back of the tongue. Yeah. And it sweetens. It's just like a minute. nice. Yeah. Wow. So on the list, even though it's low proof, I don't think you need a lot of it to be able to enjoy it. Like that just lasts. Yeah. Damn. I think on, mean, the flavors are pretty darn similar. just the, man, this thing just holds though. And it's actually less proof. Yeah. Well, half a point, right? Right. This one was 90. Yeah. 45, 90. So you think about it, all right. So if this barrel entry proof was 107, this barrel entry proof was say, even at say at 120. But to come back down to the same proof point, they'd add a lot more water to this. Yeah, that's fair. than they did to this. And then depending on where it was in the Rick house, I mean, this could have actually lost alcohol. Yeah. Even if it was in the lower floor. So maybe they didn't add water to it. And that's why, because it's really thick, it's got that really nice You can just see it on the glass. And yeah, that's just nice. Wow. Very cool. Yeah, that's good. want to compare it to the old ⁓ Just we can a frame of reference. the other I do is I've got to find like an assortment of old corks. Find a way to it all out. Yeah. Yeah. Or ⁓ of some place that makes replacement corks. This is always gonna, it's just not fairs. Like these old ones are. Good. Well, the same guy made them. Yeah. So I'm, I think it's fair. Oh man. See this one's way sweeter to me on the nose. Already? Yeah. So that makes me wonder. What year is this one? 1983. Okay. But it's eight year, 101 proof. But it should be the old entry, 107-8 Same entry. So just proof down just a little bit. Mmm. Someone knows. Yeah, ⁓ yeah. Mmm. the But I would say that it's a little more buttery and a little sweeter. I think. To me, when you first sip it, it's smoother. But I think it's got a stronger bitey aftertaste to it. I would agree with that. As it holds. And don't think it is holding as long. I don't think that flavor lasts as long as this. But think it turns to bitey at the end. More of rye pepper. Yeah. Yeah. But man, the nose is better on this one than these other two. I will say that. Hmm. This is good. Wow. Yeah. I think. that pepper bite as a sipper. This is probably the best. I agree. All day long. Yeah. No, agree with this. I think as far as the most flavorful, this one. I the way how long this lasts on the palate is the advantage to this. This one. think, ⁓ think the kind of overshadows ⁓ the finish. Yeah. If it didn't, if it stayed the way it started, it would be crazy good. yeah. But it's like, I think some people do like that. Just a little bit of that. Yeah. Pepper bite. Crazy. All of them. Yeah. No, they're all good. Probably had that for five years. Yeah. How did this never get opened? Yeah. For as many times as we go through and just start opening things because they're here. And I think I just grabbed it when I was down in Cincinnati doing sim You know, I wanted liquor stores down there they had a Russell Reserve 10 year special. I'm like, all right, I'll grab that. And I just threw it back there. And here it's been. And you that private barrel. That's probably. Yeah, that's yeah. That was the that one was nice. ⁓ ⁓ that nose. The after is so nice. the nose is crazy awesome on this. Hmm. what a day. Yeah, I like it. I'm busy. Yeah, very busy. I know. I mean, I really like the flavor on this one, but I think this one. I agree. It's probably my favorite. I agree. lasts easy sip, not too strong. Just a nice. And for me to something go the dusties Yeah. A little more. Just a verification splash. this is nice. Yeah, I like it. It's a little cleaner. I that's ⁓ a way to describe that. was just... I won't go back for another one, Yeah, it's just, yeah. it's like you get just, just a hint of the funk. Yeah. You that old dusty funk. I guess it just lasts on the palette. That's the part that impresses me about that one. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. I don't think any of these are wrong. No, they're all nice. Beautiful. I'm surprised you had this one as long as you did. I am too. I didn't even know I had to open it. Yeah, you started looking like, wait a minute. second. This is still wrapped. Yeah. Very good. Yeah, that's nice. So glad to find this today. I think that's going to be a favorite. Yeah, I agree. I think it was really nice. Yeah. Well, hope you like this. Kind of a short episode. a sample. the wild turkey. Yeah. But thanks for watching and have a night. Everybody have a great night. Like and subscribe, follow, please. We would appreciate it. Have a great night. Good night.
