Daniel AI: Welcome to Bourbon, Brass and Beyond, episode 49. Tonight we talk about our recent Kentucky trip during Derby week for Dan's birthday. Please sit back, relax and enjoy the flight. Thanks for watching our 49th episode. Please visit our website at www.BourbonBrassAndBeyond.com and leave a review.

Dan And Steph: evening. Hi everybody. Welcome back to Bourbon Brass and Beyond. Yeah. It's been a crazy week. It's been a crazy couple days for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome days. I ⁓ today recovery day. Yeah, I'm pretty exhausted. Dan turned 49. On May 1st. And this is our 49th episode. Yeah, that is. It's a good coincidence. Yeah. But yeah, I turned 49 and earlier in the week you asked what I wanted to do for my birthday. So I think what happened was you saw an ad on Facebook or Instagram and it said that Derek Trucks was going to be doing a signing and a little talk. for ass pocket whiskey. And as soon as you said it, you didn't say I wanted yours with, but I kind of inferred that. And I said, do you want to go to Kentucky for your birthday? So we did. We did. And we bought a lot of stuff. Yes. It was quite prosperous for Dan and we found a lot of interesting bottles, lot of bottles. Yeah, ⁓ went a lot of places, but... Yeah. So why don't we start with our drive down? Right. going down takes about six and a half, seven hours to get there. ⁓ We went Thursday night and I sent Bonds a and said, hey, are you guys open? I want to stop. I'd like to stop by ⁓ So revival of vintage spirits in Covington, Kentucky. And that was fantastic. So we got to, we bought some bottles and then we tried a 1957 old Forester Sputnik bottle. And that was fantastic. It was. And I think, you know, that was really nice of him to let us try that, which I think he just threw us at the end because we did buy the bottles. So I wasn't sure what we were going to do at this stop, but it ended up they had this old Taylor. And what year is that? 1972. Well, distilled in 1967, bottled in 1972. Okay. So they had the old Taylor and they also had a Yellowstone. Yup. They actually got what? Two cases? Of that Yellowstone? 1971. 1971. So this was, and this is a six year old, this was actually distilled in fall of 1964. Yeah, so two old Dusties. Yeah. So I kind of said, okay, this is what you want for your birthday present. So we got that. those two bottles and then they also had some ass pocket whiskey and I think this is what the four? actually... Yeah, ⁓ replaced... ⁓ this isn't the fourth one that we have sitting out here. we had lot four and it's mostly gone. Yeah. So we got another two pack of the lot four. They had it there. Even though it's sold out on the website, they had it there. Yeah. And so we bought that and then we also bought... This. A 13 year old Swagger Bourbon. Yeah, which I had never heard of before and I think you had neither. No, but it's a MGP product. It's supposed to be pretty good, but Steph really wanted it because it's got a really pretty bottle and it's got a glass like. Some kind of bird in there. In the inside. So I'm really into art and I love a beautiful bottle. this, they had one of these at the bar that was really close to empty. So you can really see the bird, the glass bird in the bottom of the bottle. And then we ended up buying one. Yeah. Because we heard it was pretty good as well. So that's what we got at our first stop. So. So then we can. Well, we're going to do an ass pocket whiskey. Yeah, so but this is the new one. This is the new one. So this is his all year round. Continuous run, so this is not a limited production run. ⁓ It's 92 proof. Straight bourbon whiskey. It's not Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Which to Yeah, distilled in Indiana, so this is an MGP product, so it's a MGP bourbon. And this one's younger. Yeah. I believe it's the... Now I don't want to confuse myself. I think it's the five, the fifth edition. five. The lot five that came out was the 20 year. Tennessee Whiskey. Yes. And I think that was the best one. So this couldn't really, this couldn't really compete with that being a four or five year. can't, I don't know exactly what it is, but. But this comes in a three pack. Yeah, it comes in a three pack. So and it was very affordable. I think it was 50, 50 some odd dollars for a three pack and they are smaller bottles, but they're supposed to fit to go in your back pocket. Yeah. Take around you. So the beauty of these and we're getting ahead of ourselves because we really are. Yeah. But this is the lowest proof. So that's why we're starting with this one. Yeah. Derek did sign all these bottles for us. And he signed my lot four bottles one of my lot fives. Yeah, I know. He was very nice. And so why I'm wearing the soul shine sweatshirt tonight, this was a hurricane relief concert, which I mainly went to because Dave Matthews was performing. But also Derek Trucks was there with his band. So, yeah. So now we're Cheers. ⁓ that was loud. Yeah, that's pocket whiskey. You got a little bit of rye on it. got a nice nose, I would say. It's as rough as it was, I think, the other night. Yeah, that's really strange because we tried it on Friday ⁓ Great legs it, too. Yeah, we tried it Friday night and to me it just felt really hot. And we just that. and just took a sip and it did not seem hot at all. No. So that's interesting. Yeah. It's really nice. I feel like it's sweet at all. No. Get more of the pepper. But it's a real pleasant taste. Yeah. Well, okay. Well, I'm glad I tried it again. Well, I wasn't sure about it. Right. And we just had that really bad. Well, you didn't like the Pad Thai. We had just had Pad Thai before going over there. So that could have really thrown off our taste buds too. I think my taste buds are going through a whole thing. So who knows from day to day. yeah, so we, ⁓ did that. that was later on Friday, our one we wanted to try and yeah. Got to say, I'm happy with it. Yeah, that's decent. It's real nice. And you could, you could just carry that around and it's a nice zipper. Yeah. So we got it at Kroger. I'm not sure where else it's available right now. Well, Kroger in Kentucky. And Kroger in Kentucky, And not sure if it's on the website or not. know. ⁓ I I don't even know if it's officially been released yet. I think it was a it was a ⁓ Derby week supposed to be it's It's it's launch. Well, wow. ⁓ and it is a 92 proof too. So and I think I think that's kind what he was saying about it is that, you know, it's just a sipper. Yeah. You're not drinking it to get ⁓ get loaded. So yeah, I like it. That was a score. I'd say definitely pick that up when it becomes available. That's nice. I do like the little three pack. So we went to bed kind of late Thursday night because we were driving all day and then we woke up quite early to get to Buffalo Trace. Very well. So we we pulled in at 625. planning them to open the parking lot at seven and we were probably 25 cars back. Yeah. And they did let us in just before seven. However, they actually opened the gift shop at eight a.m. Right. So they opened it an hour early, which was nice. It was nice. I appreciate them not having us sit in the cold for the extra hour. Right. And we were about halfway back, just the very first snake. Yep. And only thing they had, I mean, they had the Blanton's, the ⁓ Taylor and had the Weller red. And then, of course, they had the green as well. The green as And then we had Derby Derby bottles were little Blanton's bottles ⁓ and super cute. ⁓ So we were able get those as well. So they're the 375 milliliter and they are the actual barrel selects. yeah, adorable. So cute. And yeah, so of the typical things they usually have a Buffalo Trace, they didn't have the Eagle Rare that day, right? Right. And I think the Reds did run out by 1 p.m. is what you said. Yes. So I was walking into the gift shop, I asked her what they had and she told me, and then she said, and we have some reds. Well, didn't know what that meant. So ⁓ I of just ran in there and grabbed a couple reds and then I just saw them everywhere. But I guess ⁓ for ⁓ way think, they didn't have as much as they typically would or have as much as the other things. So we out of there with quite a haul, I think. So probably because I restocked the H Taylor. got we got a couple of those. We got two reds, two greens and two derbies. Yeah. And then a couple of altonens, a couple of shirts. Yeah. Some bourbon balls, the Blanton bourbon balls. Got to get those. The caramel. Those are so good. Yeah, that's that was it. Some stickers I think we got. Or was that? That was at the next stop. then we went to Pappy and Company. We drove to Louisville. Yes. to Pappy and Company. For cigars and coffee. Right. So at ⁓ shop, they don't sell alcohol. They sell their merch. Right. And this is Julia Winkle III's triplet daughters own this place. Yes. And it a nice store. Like I was telling you earlier, the people in Kentucky always seem so nice. The hospitality is always so nice. And the lady that was working at the store, she was just made you feel so welcomed. And got our coffee with a little bit of the ⁓ Trace. is Bourbon cream. Bourbon cream. Yeah. And then there were ⁓ out bourbon Yes. The ones with the pecans on top. So those are really really rich. And so having just one of those in the coffee, was a little breakfast. And let's see, so what do we get there? We got a couple of cigars. Got some cigars because they had like a Derby pack, a couple of cigars in a cutter and matches. Yep. So one of the ferment, they were the barrel fermented, one was a traditional and one was the Drew Estate Pappy Van Winkle cigar. We've I've been wanting one of these. I'm wanting a flask. A flask. that's really nice. then got the nice cutter, the nice cigar cutter. Yes. That has a Pappy logo on it. Yes. And a place to a cigar. So I'm obsessed with ashtrays. ashtrays mostly. ⁓ but these new ones are really cool too. So we picked that up. This is such a heavy cutter. I mean, this is heavy stainless steel, Pappy and Co branded, but it's a really nice, it'll do the line cut or it's just the uncut. Yeah. soon, well, I don't want to say soon, but there is going to eventually be a podcast with bourbon and cigars. Yes. and how those pair together. So will come in handy. Very much so. It'll be fun to use. Yeah. And what else did we get there? I'm always throwing random stuff in. We got stickers and... a couple stickers. And they gave us some free... balls. Bourbon balls because it was your birthday, which was very nice and ⁓ So that was great. So there, we walked to Justin's house of bourbon. Right. We walked in there. We didn't buy anything, but we looked at some very, very expensive old Dusties. Yeah. We asked the price on one and within two seconds there was a guy behind us that bought it. Yes. $4,000. And we weren't going to buy that anyway. No. But it was a pre-prohibition bottle. Yeah. Yeah. It's special stuff, but... We went over to Old Forester. Yeah. Got one of the 117 bottles. And I got a Derby glass. Yeah, that's where I found the Derby glasses, which I don't think they're not here. It's not here anymore. Is Or is it up there? Yeah, it's right here. Yeah, so it's just a really pretty glass and. It's got all the winners of the Kentucky Derby since 1875, all 152, so. I just thought that was really pretty. that was a brief visit. And then we walked over to ⁓ Road. Boiler House. Boiler House. And we got... Which pretty much next door. Yep. ⁓ We two of the faithfully... the two crafted bottles that they released. I didn't have yet. ⁓ I haven't opened yet. And... They're in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Louisville. we talked to the restaurant manager there. We were supposed to go back later for dinner, but we ran out of gas and had to cancel. Yeah. That was very, I think, optimistic to think that we were going to go all the places we did and be able to plow through since we got up so early in the morning. Yeah. And had little sleep from driving in and then ⁓ walk around in Monks Road and Old Forester, we decide we're hungry. So we're going to head towards where Derek Trucks was doing the bottle signings at the Kroger on Shelbyville Road. ⁓ we're looking for restaurants. find a Pad Thai place. So every place was starting to close at three. ⁓ Well, the restaurants we were looking at were which were Vietnamese and Thai and Indian. They all seem to have a little pact in that town that they were going to close at three or something. But we did get on a Friday on Oaks Day. Yeah, it was strange, but we did get in. Not my favorite. No, but I once the food hit us. We got really tired. We got tired and we were waiting over Kroger. Well, we didn't know what the event was going to be like. It could have been, you know, a line out the door that we had to wait for. We just weren't sure. And when we got to Kroger, the parking lot was absolutely packed. mean, people were way out in overflow areas and were like, ⁓ my God, already? Because it ⁓ was early. It was not even four yet, I don't think, at that time. we walk up and we see a line. And we're like, ⁓ no. But it wasn't for that. It was to make a rose. It was that rose thing that they put over the Derby winner. Yes. So I guess you can line up and you can go in and do a rose for this. it was a very popular, popular event for people. Because even by the time we were leaving Kroger, there was still a huge line for people to do that. Yeah. Finally, we went into the part of Kroger and were one of the first people there. So we were able to just kind of go in and. And well, we bought some stuff. Yeah. So again, ⁓ the ⁓ ⁓ can't his name, but the guy that works at the Kroger and who had set everything up was also just ⁓ extremely cool. nice. So he said, ⁓ just, you know, go sit down. So we just kind of waited in there and shopped around. So we our ass pocket whiskey, which we just had earlier in the podcast. ⁓ And later we got some Father Time. Father Time bourbon. Second child. ⁓ Yeah, is the precious ⁓ batch straight bourbon whiskey middle child. ⁓ A child, okay. Middle child mystery. Middle child. This is the 92 proof. not the empty nester strength. That's the cash strength. So opened yet. ⁓ That'll opened in the future at some point. So then Trucks arrived and he and Chris, person Kroger, ⁓ did a little Q and It was nice. was great stories. It was. Yeah. So, okay, you've poured the old Taylor now. No, this is the old swagger. Oh, the old swagger, okay. I was not paying attention at all. It's got a great nose on it though. It does. And it's an MGP product. It's definitely different than when you took off the top and we smelled that. Yeah, a lot deeper. I'm getting like a dark fruits. Little bit of caramel. Okay, so with this we've got a hundred proof. And it's a 13 year on the old swagger. Everything is old today. Old swagger, old Taylor, old me. Hmm good. I that. great legs on it. Nice Yeah, very nice finish. ⁓ I say that the nose and the palate match. I'm getting the same fruits and taste on the palate as I am in the nose. little bit of a bread smell. but very floral, dark, like dark cherries. I wasn't getting a whole lot when it was in my mouth, but then the finish on that was just really, it just opened up and. ⁓ that's nice. All right. Very drinkable. need another one of those. They did have quite a few. Right. Nice bottles. Which I'm not sure why. They, they had a lot of these though, it seemed like. Did you notice? Yeah. But then I don't remember seeing that anywhere else. No. You'll have to ask him about that. Right. Like they have an exclusive. Hmm. Great legs. it's really nice. And honestly, I just can't wait to drink it so I can see this empty bottle. Challenge accepted. Mm-hmm. yeah. Topper's Really nice. Good call, Yeah. So we left Kroger. And we left Kroger and we were exhausted. back to Frankfurt. Yeah. you figure, you know, we drove from Frankfurt to Louisville ⁓ to, ⁓ we went to Stittel Weller. We forgot that. We, when we left, we went Stittel Weller. Stittel Weller. Dan was not with the grounds. No, I'm... You see pictures of the past of that place and it was like a palatial gardening ground. Like it was just taken care of. It was nice. And it's like, Diageo's just let it go to shit. don't. The houses, it definitely looked like everything there could have just been abandoned. But they're But. It just kind of looked... granted, it's busy. It's Derby week. There's stuff going on. But it looks like that nobody had cleaned up the parking lots. I mean, there were branches and limbs down everywhere. It just looked unkept. The place did. And the building, even the main building, which was the original Stitzelweller offices, it's where Pappy had his office. On the other than the main gift shop entrance, it looked horrible. I just, to me, I'm just like... But the bar and the wall they've made from the barrel. Right. And those were very cool. That was cool. That was cool. And the people were super nice. I will say that. Always. I'm not a member of the Five Keys Club, so I didn't get to try the Bladenbow 22 year or 30 year or 31 year. I think they were just giving you... a free sample of the 22 if you were a member. And I don't know if it was just that day. It seemed like it was just today. If you're a member, you get to try this. But they were selling the 22 year. Bottle for a thousand bucks, thousand dollars, yes. And I'm I wasn't going to spend a thousand dollars on that bottle without trying it. And I think you were fed up with the place. I was. just not feeling it. No. Well, I wanted to go there and wanted to find like a connection to the original Stitzelweller. And had plenty of historical stuff, you know, like a little walk through museum area. But you just don't get it. just I'm That was I didn't have any expectations for it. So I didn't feel the way you did. Yeah, ⁓ I I just had. Higher expectations or hopes. Well, and I think it was partially our fault for not knowing, but they have the garden and gun club and we expected to just go up there and eat lunch, but they don't really have lunch. They just had like five small plates on the menu. So were going to eat lunch there and then we didn't. So I think it just gave us, we just didn't have the experience there that we wanted. Which like I said, the garden, the garden club, I'm sure we could have looked more into that and ⁓ that before, but I think we were starting to get hangry. And so that didn't help. Bartender was super nice though. mean, he gave us a lot of information. The people were great. And I did get some gifts there so and they brought them very nicely and they had a band playing out like gazebo area Two people out there I think two or three But So no bottles purchased there no So, okay. So we're we're back to Kroger. We did the talk. We got our stuff signed by Derek and we got a picture taken with them which was fun and yeah he was super nice. we ⁓ and went to Evergreen Liquors on Road just down the road from Kroger. It was a of score. We walk in and I look on this one table and they have the Willett Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon, aged 12 years. And this is a store pick. It's called Loyalty Points, but this was a store pick. This is bottle 44 of 128 and bottle 48 of 128. barrel number 7438, 129.6 proof. And Dan was very happy. Yeah, this was the score. MSRP. He knew what he was getting. Yeah, so they had these at MSRP, they were out. They had a couple other bottles out there too, but this was, this was. That's what you wanted. Pretty, I like the purple. Yeah. So 12 year purple top. And it's a, it's a higher proof, right? That's a 136 or something. 129.6. And what else? tried a couple things at the bar. Well, you tried Mary Dowling. Yeah, wasn't. Which one was it? It was the wheated Yeah. And I wanted to like it. But the initial was great, but I had like a real bitter aftertaste. I didn't that. I have no ⁓ aftertaste with that swagger at all. I mean, that aftertaste is fantastic. Yeah, really good. having some old Taylor. Yes. ⁓ some old Taylor. It's ⁓ birthday drink. I like the Dustys. There's no doubt I like the Dustys. I like the Dusty funk. I like the behind them. And I like the Dustys. I like having other people experience it. Because I think all in all, it's a totally different experience. They had the barrel entry proof, which the higher water content reacts differently with the wood. They didn't age as long back then, but you wouldn't know it. think that they more flavor and complexity shorter periods of time back then. When they went to higher barrel entry proof, in my opinion, they have to let them cook for a long time in the barrel in order to get some of that same complexity, but with it, you're getting a lot of that ethanol. taste. Yeah. And like we talked about, it seems like when they made these older ones, they were doing it to make best whiskey they could. ⁓ now it's more about, it's not that they don't want to make a whiskey, but it's more about profit and mass production. And so it's not the same. And I think now that they're, they have overproduced, they're shutting down the distilleries. Now with the barrels, now they're gonna start cooking them longer again and trying to find a quality. Now this old Swagger is an product. ⁓ do the lower barotre proof still. They've refused to change. Even though I'm not a rye person, they do a lot of ryes, that bourbon's It's really good. So I'm really happy with that. The old Taylor, I cracked this open night. Yeah, me too. And I don't remember how much this old swagger was, but I don't think it was I don't think it was crazy. I think we'll have to reach out to Brad. So we were ⁓ with Brad. ⁓ go down to a podcast down there at Revival. And Revival just they have a cool setup because they a bar there with a bunch of different bourbons you can taste so you can just. get a taste of an old Dusty if you're not wanting to buy a whole bottle. But they also had the ass pocket whiskey and the old swagger. It was a good mix of things they had. So there's a bar downstairs and then upstairs is the bottle store. So if you do go in there, make sure you go upstairs. Yes. And now you're smelling old Taylor and you love it. You love it so much. I do. And you get that little bit of the dusty funk. You get the caramel. You get the rye. I can can smell a bit the rye. And I would almost say. I almost get a little bit of mint, which is possible with Rise. can hear our kids being rowdy upstairs when it's definitely time for them to be in bed. Yes, it's a school night. No, when they start breaking stuff, we'll... ignore them. Ugh. So this is a very nice mellow. What a nose on it. I'm getting a little bit of the caramel. I'm getting a little bit of the vanilla. And I would say almost a little bit of a bread smell. It's just, it's just so different. It's just when you smell these old... like a pistachio. Almost like a pistachio nut. We're doing a podcast. Oh, night. Love you. Hmm. just smells so nice. And I will say that this is probably the thickest legs I have ever seen on a bourbon. And I've done a few. it's just totally coating. ⁓ And ⁓ it just stays. Yeah. Yeah. It's like paint. It's like paint coming down a wall. ⁓ smooth. And it's a little bit of that pepper. I didn't get the pepper on that first taste. You know, it's always different. So I'm getting butterscotch on this one. and a butterscotch aftertaste. Like a butterscotch candy. something that has like an orange liqueur and a butterscotch. If that were a thing. So while we're drinking this, we can chat about Saturday. Saturday, I woke up and looked at the clock and it was almost six and Dan said to me, do you want to just sleep? Yeah. And I said, yes. And I think, I think you, you did that to be nice, but also because then you could leave right away and get in line. It'd early. Well, it'd be very early, which is okay. Yeah. I was car number five or six in line. When did let us in like 10 till seven. And then I got in line and I was right around first. I was in the first corner. Yeah. From that, from the, ⁓ so I like number 10. So you were so ready for that special drop that did not happen. ⁓ And because the 90 day limit, I couldn't buy another Derby bottle. Right. So you ended up with what? A green? got a Blanton's. I got a Blanton's ⁓ And maybe a green? A green. ⁓ they did not have red. Right. Goodnight I love you. it a bust. But I feel like Buffalo Trace, ⁓ you never getting a special... You've been now, what? This is maybe ⁓ the fifth sixth, seventh time? I want a single oak project or ⁓ that 15 year experimental that they just released and came out with. I would really like to find one of those. Because that's the low barrel entry proof, you know, old school. And might have thought that on Derby Day or on, you know, Day, they would have come out with something. But they did have the Derby bottles. So that was special in itself. And I think they do that every year. Isn't that what some of the locals were saying? ⁓ that's so nice. So you left with a couple more bottles and then came back to the hotel and we were on our way back home. And we stopped at one of your regular stops. Oh yeah. And they had... and a limit of two was Crescent Springs Tobacco. It's off Buttermilk Parkway, just south of Cincinnati in Kentucky. And they had two, well, they had a bunch of Sazerac barrel selects where they did barrel pick for the Eagle Rare 10 year. They had them in 375s and the 750s, and we got two of the 750s. And we also got the Yellowstone there. yes. So wanted to do comparison with the old Yellowstone that's up here. So we got the ⁓ the latest Yellowstone that came out because it's got a really pretty picture of the falls on it, too. And we've been there. And we've been there with the family. Yeah. Which is also surreal. Yeah. So this is an eight year old 110 proof. And I like Yellowstone ⁓ because This, ⁓ Beam is the founder and master distiller and he's a descendant of the original Beam family, but also of the original Dant family. So was actually founded at a Danton head, ⁓ or the distillery. And they all from the family. So good fun for you. Yes. And we also got that maker's mark. I had been looking for the 2025 finished series, the Keepers, because I have the 2024, I have the 2026. So yeah, did find this. Bold oak toasted sweetness. So I do feel like anything that you were looking for, we did find. Plus so much more. But you were definitely looking for that Makers. Yeah, the only other thing I was looking for was a JD-12. Right. Cause I have the 10 and the 14 and I've got a whole bunch of barrel selects that I want to do for a podcast. And a very good friend who's going to come down for it. So we got to get that 12. Got to get the 12. You'll get it. And I think that's all the bottles. there were also bottles that we picked up on the way. ⁓ So that's from the Bourbon Hunter. Yeah. Dude pole in JD Fridges. So I I messaged JD because ⁓ one of their podcasts, because I listen to them regularly, JD that he was going to Bourbon and beyond with his wife. ⁓ And course, we're going to go this year because of Dave Matthews and a whole list of other bands that are just fantastic. I reached out and we started chatting back and forth and ⁓ mentioned that, ⁓ you know, they had some ⁓ left of their barrel picks. Now I've listened to the podcasts of these barrel picks and funny. were a time. So it's nice being able to say, okay, now I get to try this. Cause a couple of those were fantastic. Like that single barrel with Forrester, even the, The Hunter-proof Old Forester was really good. both of the Jack Daniels ones. So. And that'll be an upcoming podcast. Yeah. them. Yeah. Where ⁓ be discussing. ⁓ that's very exciting as well. So think how many bottles did you have up here? There were 26, I think. 26, but I forgot to put out the lot four bottles. So I think there was 28. Okay. And then we came home and you had gotten in the mail a couple bottles of Yeah. So we did a podcast which is going to be coming out on Sunday. Yeah. No, ⁓ Wednesday. with Dan from OADE Armagnac And after we it, because we had samples that he had sent out, were like, all right. We need these two bottles. Yep. The third one is not bottled. Yeah. And I think if that one would have been there, we'd have bought that too. Yeah. So we got the 35 year duck season and the 39 year serendipity from OADE. And they were fantastic. That serendipity was great too. That phenomenal finish. And that's going to be a great podcast for you to. to release because he was so good at explaining everything and their whole process. it's just a really good product. If you're a bourbon drinker, you like good older bourbons or something that has a little bit of that dusty funk, try Ode to Arminac. I mean, it is right up your alley. It really is good. Really good. So yeah, you made out for 49. We all I mean, yeah, it's not even a big birthday. I'm surprised we didn't even get 49 bottles like quite frankly. Well, we were tearing through everything. I mean, the week's not done yet. I think if we would have stopped at maybe like three more stores, we would. didn't we didn't have time because we had get back for dinner. Right. Right. We had a birthday dinner ⁓ a lot of our neighborhood friends or there are four people ⁓ our group who have birthdays within the two week period. So we a. dinner at a Mexican restaurant. So we came back and we got there in time for it. the thing I didn't do is I was supposed to pick up samples from the ⁓ Barrel Club in ⁓ just... we spaced, but I think we were just kind of so and I mean, trying to do all that in one day, it was a lot. ⁓ Especially when you're up that early. Yeah, 49 years old. Yeah. So they're going to send up the samples and we've scheduled a podcast with them on May 17th. So yeah. Yeah. So that was our weekend. And then we had today, which is Sunday to just kind of, you know, put stuff away. Yeah. Yeah. Just kind of relax and yeah, put stuff away. Yeah. But it was great. It's fun. Trip to Kentucky is always good and best birthday ever. Be hard to top it. Yeah. I guess the only way to top it is to actually go to the Derby when we're there. Yeah, because it's the same weekend. was we were there on Derby Day and yeah, everyone asked us everywhere we went. Are you going to the Derby? And we were like, no, we're just here for his birthday to shop. So, yeah. It was a good time. Very good time. Oh, that was, I mean, this bottle would not have itself would be worth it. Well, you know, and like, like we've said is this bottle, you said it was in 1972 and someone had this bottle and they just didn't open it and continued to not open it. And for 53 years. And so we're just of the opinion that you get it and you drink it. Because what you doing just sitting on all this bourbon? You got to drink it. And you've got to share it. And you got to share it. So anytime people are at our house, ⁓ Dan bartending and it's like, hey, try this, try this. So it. That was this bottle and there's... distilled in 62 bottled ⁓ 68 old Fitzgerald Monticello. There's about this much left in there. I'm looking at it. Very little light. Yeah. I to say like what 116 in there. But was full. Yeah. And ⁓ everybody's that's favorite. It's fantastic. Yeah. The Monticello. Maybe we'll find another one someday, but hopefully, but this was absolutely worth it. And the thing is, I think you can't be afraid to drink it because you say, well, maybe we'll never find it again because you're going to find something else that you love. Yeah. You'll find something else old or something else new that you'll love. So just drink it. But we'll always talk about that one. that's good find. Yeah. I even wear my Colonel Taylor shirt tonight for this. right. Thank you. Wonderful birthday. You're welcome. It was fun. The waking up early isn't fun, but we did it. And you let me sleep the second day. So that was my gift. You came back at nine thirty and I was still in bed. And that was good for me. But you and this is the other thing that amazes me is you can be ready to go in twenty five minutes. Walking out the door. completely packed with everything closed. And that amazes me. Because I can't even do that. I think when we went to Buffalo Trees the first day, was probably 15 minutes. Once I get out of the bed, I can be ready in about 15 minutes. It's my gift. I can't do that. I need two cups of coffee. 15 minutes of scrolling. Wake up. That's what I do every day. I wake up and bed rot and doom scroll. ⁓ Yeah, a great weekend. ⁓ It fun. thanks for Appreciate all the messages comments in last couple days. Please like, share, subscribe. Get chance.
