Dan And Bob: Well, good evening. Good to see you. Good to see you. Third time today. Third time. So today is Bourbon drop day and for everybody watching, this is Nick. Nick is a fellow airline captain and so here we are on Bourbon drop day. I know. It was a good one. It was a great one. Yeah. What you ended up getting? I picked up the 107, Antique 107 and the That new Elijah Craig, the Barrel-Proof Rye, the A126. I think it was the first time I've seen it right around here. Yeah. So. That's, we ended up getting a number of Weller Antique 107s and then this past weekend I was able to find the Saffels and. Yes. Yes. Thank you. Yeah. You're welcome. Appreciate you getting me one of those as well. Yeah. It's worth it. It's definitely worth it. And tonight you brought a smorgasbord here of. Yeah, we had ⁓ few, ⁓ few different things. A couple of things you and I have been talking about getting open and trying. So brought the Kentucky spirit, the wild turkey. That's a like we were just talking about that Camp Nelson E. It a pick. It was just down in Lexington and got to try it. It's pretty classic turkey and. Then the old Forester, the new 117. This is the March 2026, which is their high angel share rye. So just saw that as well last weekend and picked it up and give them a go. ⁓ So ⁓ want to start with a, ⁓ you honors to pop the cork. ⁓ What do we, yeah, I think we said we were going to start here. See if they got, yeah, they got some perfs there. I'm getting to the point now where I ⁓ will pop them first because I yeah, they're fighting with them. Yeah, especially something that's got a little proof on it to maybe give it a second to open up. All right. Your bar, sir, you can do the honors. so I the mess. Well, ⁓ that's basically I was saying. We'll start small. Yeah. we might have a couple to go through. ⁓ already get the smell. I always get chocolate off the Old Forester stuff. know, when I started, the first thing I smell is chocolate. ⁓ a darker, yeah, kind of that higher percentage type little bit of that. Cocoa. Yeah, bitterness on the cocoa. What do we say this was? 110? Yeah, 110 proof. Little bit of there. But I'm not getting a lot of rye. I'm not... No. No, not a lot of that rye. A lot of the caramel, a lot of the sweetness. There's a sweetness on it, There's almost that, like you said, that chocolate and then a little bit of that. Trying figure out what kind of sweetness there is there. Like a dark brown sugar. Yeah, not so much of like a confectionary, but something a little deeper than that. Give it a try. Wow. I was expecting it to be hotter, to be honest. Yeah. You get a lot of that. got a nice long finish on it. It does. And you get that pepper on tongue. gosh, it's going on the back end here. Yeah, 110 proof, not crazy, but I thought it might have little bit of proof, that rye, maybe a little bit more bite, but it really wasn't there. And the sweetness just, it goes all the way back. Yeah, it sat really kind of lingered. Hmm. So this is what I say about the president's choice. Mm hmm. Is that as you drink it, you start getting different notes every time you drink it. And it just opens up like a flavor that just. Yeah, you have. Which one do you have? Oh, yeah, the 2025, the 25. Yeah. Yeah, the second sip was a little bit different than the first. even coming back to the nose now. See now, now it's much sweeter. was gonna say that there was a little bit of that ethanol before, not a lot of that rye on the nose, but yeah, now it's straight sweetness on that nose. Yeah, I'm a fan. That's a great, that's a great pour. That's right in a good proof point too. You know, it's, it's full, not overpowering. Right. That sweetness does really linger there. Yeah. And you don't, there is no, the rye is very well balanced. Yes. Yeah. You know, a lot of people think they don't like rye because all they've heard is you get the spice, but Me. No, that is balanced. Yeah, that was me for a long time, too. And then I forced myself to really get out there and and try it. And yeah, you just get the touch of the rye in that on the aftertaste. But ⁓ pleasant. Yeah, it's very delicate. Yeah. Yeah. No, I'm happy with that. Yeah. Nice. Glad we got that one. That's good start. That's perfect. Alright. glass, if you want one over there. have couple more. I become a very big wild turkey fan, I think. And it started as a, we found in the state auction a couple old dusty ⁓ wild turkeys. So two of the... 83s. and they to me are phenomenal. Yeah. But then I got this a couple weeks ago. I think this is my most favorite. Yeah. I think that this is what will. Yeah, I've always liked wild turkey. Even before I was maybe fully aware and knowledgeable. just somebody gave me a Russell's 10 and I was like, this is pretty dang good for at the time I think I was buying it for $32 off the shelf and didn't even really know what I didn't know yet. But that kind of really led me down the path of Wild Turkey. And yeah, I'm a big fan. People talk about the turkey funk and. Yeah, it just never seems to disappoint. So this one, okay, so tell me more about this one. 83. 101 proof, 8-year, Austin Nichols, Wild Turkey. It was probably $17 new. Yeah. What a cool bottle. Cool label. Yeah. Everything. But on these old ones, all the corks The corks, yeah. Yeah. There's not a lot left to salvage there. No. No. So I had to actually get like a cork kit. Blaine told me where to find one. Oh, really? Yeah. I've seen them do that with really old bottles of wine. You have like the... Do you ever have to put the, you know... I don't know. Well, like tweezers for lack of better term, but slides down. Yeah, I've got a couple different ones. Yeah. Yeah. I've seen them do that. Now, I also learned the trick of how you wrap up the plastic shopping bag that like you get from Walmart. Yeah. And you twist it up and you stick it down in and then tip the bottle. Yeah. Get the cork out. Yeah. Push it in. Yeah. I've seen I've seen some interesting methods. ⁓ wow. So smooth. That me off guard. That wasn't what I was ⁓ anticipating the nose. Yeah. That was a very different. Okay. Hold yeah. That threw for a little bit. Yeah. It's bit of like a nut, like a peanut. Yeah. It's caramel, but almost there's a molasses and orange in it. I. Yeah, hold on. me get that again. That caught me off guard. The nose versus actual... Yeah, I, a thousand percent, I get that nut first. That nut shows up first. That's, think, what caught me off guard. That wasn't something I was expecting. Having never really gotten into those older and just always having newer, newer turkey stuff, 2010 and, you current. Yeah, there is a citrusy that kind of comes later on. But yeah, that nuttiness right on the front was what I pick that up initially on the nose, but wow. You get a little bit of the funk. You get a little bit of the old dusty funk. Yeah, the I was thinking this is definitely turkey because it smells, it has that turkey funk smell on the nose there for sure. Yeah, not what I was expecting. Very good. Yeah. Like you said, it was probably 15, 15 to $20. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have an old granddad's that was probably six or $7. Yeah. But it's a 1975. Yeah. fall of 75. Yeah. Now that's, that's got a lot more nut on the, on the nose and on the palate, but that's. Do you find that common? Not being too familiar with Dusty's. Does that nut note show up a lot, you think, on? I think in anything that has a rye. Okay. I think on the old Wheaters, like the old Fitzgerald, you don't get the nut. You get a much more, uh, the dark sweet citrus. Okay. Yeah. That was not what I was expecting. Yeah. So that was, I had to go back a second time. Yeah. Well, do we want to try? was great. The Kentucky Spirit. I guess we can. ⁓ compare the ⁓ Spirit. Yeah. And then do one last. Awesome. This one was a find. The private collection guys getting rid of his collection, I bought three bottles off. Got this, a lot B, and that Jefferson's presidential select 16 year. That's phenomenal. Yeah. That made Steph want to buy another one. So ⁓ was a ⁓ find somewhat. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. ⁓ like me where I just walk in everywhere and ⁓ see what there is. ⁓ I ⁓ that one, I was pretty curious. we we're up samples from Morgan Proctor from Winthrop Liquors. I remember seeing you. Yeah. and he sent up a 21-year presidential, Jefferson's presidential 21-year Kentucky rye. It was phenomenal. And Steph loved it. So then when I saw that somebody had a 16-year bourbon, I said, oh, let's try this. But apparently the 18-year that came out before the 16-year was made with old Stitzelweller juice. So that's the next one. It's on the way. Okay. Already on it. ⁓ It's on the way. So that's Steph's bottle. She share it with us. We might be able to swing it. Yeah. All right. You want to try that Kentucky spirit? Yeah. back on it again. fresh start here. Alright, got another one to back. Bye. What's amazing is this one's only 89.5 proof. Okay. And that... That was the 101. That was the 101. This one's... There we go. this is also at 101. Okay. Yeah, and from what I was reading, these are typically sitting in that eight to nine year, 101 proof Nelson E. I'm excited about that. I've never had a Camp Nelson E. Okay. So this is... Yeah, I always tend to look ⁓ the private barrel like we were talking about earlier. I'll look for those picks. ⁓ anything in a Camp Nelson and I have the the Tyrone's as well that are you know, they're good. There's absolutely nothing wrong with those but I know someday I guess I'll have to pull out some of the Tyrone's and the Camp Nelson and figure out there's really a really a big difference but yeah definitely having preference for the turkey stuff yeah those are those are something I'm usually on the look for so Oh, yeah, there's that. Nice. That's the turkey. I'm not getting any ethanol off of that. No, that's what I always find so interesting about, know, the private barrel selects are 110 proof. These Kentucky spirits are 101, but I never seem to get any proof off of it. Yeah. Oh, that's dangerous. Yeah. Cheers. Cheers. nice and syrupy. Like that really thick. It's got a real viscosity to it. nice lasting finish. like that brighter sweetness that that has. It's not a real dark sweetness. It's bit of the nut, but really Yeah, the mouth feel, it's a lot of viscosity to there. you do, you get a tiny little bit of that, that turkey funk. I almost think you get the turkey funk on the nose a lot too. Like you said, there's no ethanol on the nose to really mask that. But 101 proof, you get, you get lot of viscosity for that 101. It's very, very full mouth feel. Little bit of that nuttiness, yeah, comes through a little bit later on. So yeah, I'm a big fan. look for, I mean, these Kentucky spirits are usually, I think 60, $65 a bottle for something that, you know, there's always the debate of which warehouse, know, Jack Daniels, Coy Hill, people look for the neck tags that are 13, whatever. So I don't know, you know, like I said, I have some Camp Nelson E's, some A's, the single Rick house last year was a Camp Nelson E. $300 I think was the MSRP so big difference the price tag there and I think for 60 65 bucks it's You go wrong. Yeah. Yeah. No, ⁓ it's private barrel selects are usually a little bit more Well, maybe have them around 80 to 90 most places but a little bit higher proof They seem to all be hovering around eight year right now you used to be able to find some a little bit older than that but They're some of my favorite to just pick up whenever I find them out and about. Yeah. That's fantastic. Yeah. Yeah, no, this is great. It reminds me of why I buy them. Yeah, I like them every time. Yeah, ⁓ fantastic. Well All right. good ones there. So up to this point, this has been my favorite turkey. This is the 2003 Distillit, the last of the 107 proof, barrel entry proof. What's funny is it's a less proof, but the flavor is not. think the flavor. Look at that bottle here. Thank There we go, Tyrone Warehouse. Doesn't really matter. They all come out pretty good. but this is 16 year old. saw that on the label. Yeah. Mm. Wow. That has the best nose, I think. That's the best nose out of all of them. Absolutely. I usually don't get a lot of ⁓ a lot of the turkey. know, like so there may be a little nuttiness. I hate always using that word, the turkey funk, but there is something there. this, this is a very different nose than for sure all the other, that eight 101. There's a fruitiness on the, I think what's unique to this on the nose, there's a sweet, fruity. It's like a very clean. ⁓ I'm excited to try this one. It's very rich. You know, it's very... You don't get a lot of the bite, but you get a lot of the flavor. Yeah. it's Entry 107. And that's 80. It drinks, yeah, lot more full than what you would think for essentially 90 proof. It's got a good mouth feel. ⁓ Yeah. almost, you know, the, I think we were talking about earlier, Michter's 10, you know, Michter's 10 Rye, Michter's 10 Bourbon. They're always proofed down to that. 94-ish, I think, and people scoff at it for the price tag, but... think repeatedly proves you don't need proof to get full flavor, and that's exactly what this has as well. It reminds me a lot of that, where you can get right around that 90 proof and still have a lot of body. WAH! the nose on that. It's phenomenal. It does. has way better, more mouth feel than you would It really sits there. You do a little bit of the oak. I would say some of the tannins. Yeah, for 16 years. It's not an oak bomb. It's... That's probably why it works so well at that lower proof. You pick up a lot of that oak in that 16 years, but... Yeah, wow, that's good. That's 2003, huh? Yeah. Bottled in 2020. Great find. Yeah. Let me know when you see another. I will. I will. ask, don't call me. Just send me the invoice. something's on the way. Just send me the invoice. Fantastic. that'll be the first one. I think might a more. A couple more. After this. Thanks for watching. ⁓ I hope you enjoyed first release of the number one of the Old Forester ⁓ and the Kentucky Spirit. Great show. pleasure. Thanks for having me.
