Unknown Speaker (0:09): Urban Bass and beyond. Pull it up, Bourbon Bourbon Bourbon Bass Bass and Bourbon and groove and make it for. Flinger the ice in the dark would glow. Voices warm, let the stories flow. Drip it on the top, let the melody roam.

Speaker 0 (0:50): Every note like a welcome home.

Unknown Speaker (1:41): Good evening. Hello. Welcome back. We, we've been gone for a while.

Unknown Speaker (1:46): It's been a minute.

Speaker 1 (1:47): Yeah. A couple of weeks. Well, a week for vacation. Yeah. Then a week for an ear infection.

Unknown Speaker (1:54): Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (1:54): And, still kind of dealing with that, but, it's been busy, real busy last couple of weeks.

Unknown Speaker (2:03): Yeah. Then

Unknown Speaker (2:06): A week on a cruise ship with five kids.

Unknown Speaker (2:10): On a cruise. No, it wasn't bad. It was fun.

Unknown Speaker (2:14): Was really fun. And then, came back to the, to the mad race.

Unknown Speaker (2:19): Yeah. Well, and then you weren't feeling well and then you had to go out to work.

Unknown Speaker (2:24): Yeah.

Speaker 2 (2:24): You've been gone. So you're just back. It was really a first opportunity to come back and try my bottle

Unknown Speaker (2:31): as a, your bottle,

Unknown Speaker (2:32): my bottle,

Speaker 1 (2:33): the elusive Jefferson's '18, the Jefferson's presidential 18 year. And this thing is, is, is really special. And we did crack it the other night,

Unknown Speaker (2:47): but

Speaker 1 (2:48): it was made from this old Stitzel Wheeler barrels in 1991. Of course, Stitzel Wheeler closed in 1992. And, so this is from the original stock.

Unknown Speaker (3:02): Yeah. And, you know, that doesn't mean a lot to me. I'm just here for the taste. Yeah. You know, backstory.

Speaker 2 (3:12): And then I tell you if I think it's good. And this is definitely one of my favorites.

Speaker 1 (3:19): Yeah. And this all started with a sample that Morgan Proctor set up from Winthrop Liquors down in Florida of a Jefferson's presidential twenty one year rye. And it ended up being fantastic. Yeah. You really like that one.

Unknown Speaker (3:39): Yeah. Was surprising.

Speaker 1 (3:41): And I always said, I'm not really a rye person, but it was really good.

Speaker 2 (3:46): Well, and I think we're finding that you are a rye person. It just has to be old enough or

Unknown Speaker (3:53): The right rye.

Speaker 2 (3:54): Yeah. The right rye. Yeah. I've been enjoying the Jeffersons, and I think we even the other day we had some of the ocean, the gimmicky bourbon as people like to call it, but I enjoyed it. I think it's good.

Unknown Speaker (4:10): It's not as good as this, of course, but, yeah. I don't know. I think I might be a Jeffersons girl.

Unknown Speaker (4:17): Yeah.

Speaker 2 (4:17): I'm enjoying their bourbon probably the most.

Unknown Speaker (4:21): The, the next thing we got was at Jefferson's sixteen year twin oak, the presidential sixteen year twin oak.

Unknown Speaker (4:29): Yeah. That's right.

Speaker 1 (4:30): And then I did find a Jefferson's reserve twin oak that we tried.

Unknown Speaker (4:36): Oh, yeah. We got a lot in there. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (4:38): Got a few.

Unknown Speaker (4:39): Yeah. A few.

Unknown Speaker (4:41): But I can't believe how dark this looks.

Unknown Speaker (4:43): Yeah. Well, know, now once we drink this, we're not gonna be able to drink anything else.

Unknown Speaker (4:48): Right.

Unknown Speaker (4:49): Are we gonna try anything else first or do we just wanna be all in with this?

Unknown Speaker (4:55): We're gonna be all in. So, distilled from wheat in the 1991, in Stitzel Weller barrels. This is 94 proof. And,

Unknown Speaker (5:05): So does everything I like it's a lower proof. It's old.

Unknown Speaker (5:11): Look at that.

Unknown Speaker (5:12): It's a nice color.

Unknown Speaker (5:14): The legs are

Unknown Speaker (5:15): just really

Unknown Speaker (5:16): great on that. Very ethanol y it's

Speaker 2 (5:20): no, although I did just get a hint, but

Unknown Speaker (5:23): Well, and this is still sort of a neck pour. I mean, we only just cracked it a couple of days ago. Yeah. Just to get a taste.

Unknown Speaker (5:28): You know, like some people really, really mix it around. I really get that ethanol out.

Unknown Speaker (5:35): Super sweet.

Unknown Speaker (5:36): And I found too, like, really helps me to take a drink of water before I take a sip. And I think that that's been my go to now. It's not going to help every bourbon, but I think it helps a lot.

Unknown Speaker (5:51): So the caramel and vanilla on that nose is just so warm and nice.

Speaker 2 (5:56): So what I really like is that when you first take that sip, there's just absolutely no burn, which I get with so many of the bourbons. And it's often talked about, you know, where are you tasting it on the tongue and what are you tasting? And with this one, I'm not I'm still not good at identifying what I'm tasting, but I feel like the potential is there to actually taste something because it's not burning.

Speaker 1 (6:22): I noticed when this is one of those ones where when you start to take a sip, you almost get like a little bit of an inhale, like a little air inhale. And I got sweetness in my mouth, like caramel before I even took a drink. Like I ate like the air that came in was nice and sweet, good caramel. And it's not like a, a dark fruit sweetness. It is a very, I would say like homemade caramel sweetness.

Unknown Speaker (6:49): Yeah. And just looking at the legs go down there. It's just so, so thick so pretty.

Speaker 1 (6:55): I get like a William Larue Weller cherry on the nose, but it's not that Cola. It's not that cherry Cola on the, on the, on the palate. It's it's just nice caramel. Just a, just a touch of cinnamon, just a hair confectioner sugar, almost like a little nutmeg, like, like just a, just a spice there. There are no baking spices that are like overpowering.

Speaker 1 (7:20): They're just very, very subtle.

Speaker 2 (7:22): Yeah. I get a little bit when it's going down a little bit where it feels a little bit stronger to me than it does initially.

Unknown Speaker (7:32): A little tingle.

Speaker 2 (7:33): Yeah. Yeah. But then I really like the way that it it kind of finishes.

Unknown Speaker (7:38): So that's good.

Speaker 2 (7:39): Now do I like it more than the rye? I don't know.

Unknown Speaker (7:43): I do.

Unknown Speaker (7:45): Oh.

Speaker 1 (7:46): I do. But I think I am a little give a little favoritism to the the weeders. So nice. So the vacation, we went on carnival.

Speaker 2 (8:01): Yes. We did a six night, six days, six night. I'm not sure what it was.

Unknown Speaker (8:07): Yeah.

Speaker 2 (8:07): Carnival cruise on the carnival horizon. Right?

Unknown Speaker (8:12): Yeah.

Speaker 2 (8:13): See, I'm already, I can't remember what we did, but it was a lot of fun. It was a spring break cruise. So there were a lot of kids on the ship, but being that we have five kids, I was unbothered and it kind of blows my mind that people complain about kids on the ship and parents need to watch their kids and it's kind of, you're on the wrong cruise. You needed to take an adults only cruise. And also there were plenty of places you could go on the ship to just be with adults or be alone or go to a bar.

Speaker 2 (8:49): So I had zero issues with really anything on the cruise. I think, as far as the food, I think the food was pretty okay. I think when we had the steak, that was really good. Of course. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (9:06): Carnival being a budget cruise, they try to like upsell you all the time. They want you to eat in the restaurants and pay more or charge you for a steak. But for the most part, it was really good. And my favorite thing was probably the gelato and they had this gelato. It was in the buffet section.

Speaker 2 (9:25): And so no matter what I got for lunch, I'd just kind of make my way through there and get both flavors of the gelato of the day, which was And always I think my favorite was the pineapple.

Unknown Speaker (9:38): So I think I like, I think what was it? Butterscotch? There was a

Unknown Speaker (9:42): Yes. That was my favorite. That was really good. The coffee was also a really good flavor. I enjoyed that.

Speaker 2 (9:49): And the steak was also great. We did get the steak a few nights and it was really nice.

Speaker 1 (9:55): Second night of the cruise was Wyatt's fifteenth birthday, and he had two and a half fillets.

Unknown Speaker (10:01): Right.

Speaker 1 (10:01): So I think we made out on that one.

Unknown Speaker (10:03): Right. Yeah. That's great about the cruise is kids can just eat and eat and eat and eat.

Speaker 1 (10:08): Dad dad, I got four burgers from the the burger place.

Speaker 2 (10:11): Yeah. The Guy's burger is on the cruise and it's Guy Fieri is what it's named for. And it's just burgers and fries, but they're really, really good. So that was also an amazing and that that is included. Yep.

Speaker 2 (10:26): It was nice. So the kids could just run up there and I think they ate burgers quite a bit either for lunch or late night. And then we did, we tried to do family dinner every night in the main dining room. So we tried to civilize them a bit, which may or may not have worked. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:43): Put the napkin on the lap and, use your utensils, basic, basic stuff that our kids are, I guess, feral, but they did better by the final They really did.

Speaker 1 (10:55): Yeah. And you gotta start somewhere. But nonetheless, was able to find a couple bottles.

Speaker 2 (11:03): Oh, Right. Yeah. So every vacation turns into sort of a, a bourbon hunt or even, even a rum. You got some rum.

Unknown Speaker (11:15): I got a Jamaican rum. Yeah. What is that? That is that

Speaker 2 (11:20): I can't remember. Blade or something.

Unknown Speaker (11:24): Bamboo.

Unknown Speaker (11:25): Bamboo. Of course.

Speaker 1 (11:28): Bamboo? Whatever that is. This was the eighteen year? Fifteen year?

Speaker 2 (11:36): I don't know. We went into a gift shop, you know, how the we had a guide and we went on a tour and went to the blue hole and jumped off a bunch of waterfalls and things. And then the guy takes you to their friend's store, which is you kinda know what's gonna happen, but they did have a nice setup though where they were letting you try any kind of rum that they had and that's what they did. They just kept giving Us rum. So.

Speaker 1 (12:03): Including big black dick. Yeah. Which is a premium Caribbean rum, which is dark chocolate.

Speaker 2 (12:09): And it's actually really good. It came in a bunch of different flavors. Okay. That didn't sound good. It's available in many different flavors.

Speaker 2 (12:17): We got the dark chocolate and, yeah, I really like it. It's really sweet. It almost seems like they put sugar in it. I feel like.

Speaker 1 (12:28): Well, and that's the difference between rum and bourbon. Bourbon cannot have any additives put in.

Unknown Speaker (12:35): Yeah. This definitely has all kinds of additives.

Unknown Speaker (12:37): Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (12:39): But it's good. And, so we ended up with that. The other rum, some cigars.

Speaker 1 (12:44): Yeah. From Jamaica. I also got a, box of Upman Limitados from 2015, chicken cigars.

Speaker 2 (12:53): So yeah, I wasn't sure you were getting a little saucy or what, but like more and more things are making their way to the checkout. And like these people know what they're doing. They get you a little boozed up and you're like, oh yeah, I'll take that. I was kind of surprised you bought a bottle of rum because you're, you don't typically drink rum, but

Speaker 1 (13:12): it was good and, had that oaky flavor like, like bourbon has. So I liked it. A little bit of spice to it, but it was, it was good.

Speaker 2 (13:22): And we enjoyed it. Mallory got a dress of all things. And, the other kids threw in a couple of things, I think too. And we were we had done enough little shots of rum that I don't think we cared. No.

Speaker 2 (13:35): And we had our jerk chicken then.

Unknown Speaker (13:36): Yep.

Unknown Speaker (13:37): And, yeah, that was our day in Jamaica. That was good.

Unknown Speaker (13:40): Got to bring home some water.

Unknown Speaker (13:44): And brought home water in his ears. We're still dealing with that.

Unknown Speaker (13:48): Well, we thought we were gonna have like a nice leisurely swimming.

Speaker 2 (13:54): I thought the excursion was that we go to the blue hole and we can swim. And then the kids had the option to go up and jump off these different sorts of platforms and waterfalls. Well, it was not that at all. There was absolutely no swimming. It was basically being guided through the waterfall and we had to do, I think, five jumps.

Speaker 2 (14:14): Everybody just had to do five jumps and you kinda had to do it to get to where you were going. So I had no idea that that's what it was, but it turned out to be really fun for the kids. Yeah. And I I enjoyed it too.

Unknown Speaker (14:30): It it it was fun.

Unknown Speaker (14:32): It was fun. We just Are you shocked?

Speaker 1 (14:36): I don't like heights. Put me in an airplane. Put me in an airplane. I'm fine. I actually, I love flying airplanes.

Speaker 1 (14:44): Put me on a ladder. I'm not, not fine.

Speaker 2 (14:48): Right. And the one platform I felt like was pretty high. I think the person who was guiding us through that, he was just like a really cool dude. And he would just kind of say one, two, three jump and you just did it. You didn't have time to really be like, I don't think I wanna do that.

Speaker 2 (15:09): You just it's vacation. Right? What's gonna happen? Everything's fine. But he did it.

Unknown Speaker (15:14): You did it. And now you're paying for it in a way.

Unknown Speaker (15:17): Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (15:18): Yeah. Oh, well. But, yeah. And then the next day we went to Cayman Islands and what did you find? You found some bottles there as well.

Speaker 1 (15:28): I got my first straight from the barrel. And from 02/22, 24, 127 proof. And it is very good. I mean, it is very good. I yeah, I'm real impressed with this.

Speaker 2 (15:50): Yeah. And so I was surprised because I knew typically you don't want to buy Blanton's. It's not really your thing. Yeah. But then you said this one was special.

Speaker 2 (16:01): Of course, every bourbon has to make something special.

Unknown Speaker (16:04): Every bourbon's a little special.

Speaker 2 (16:05): So, yeah, you got that. And was that the only one that you got there?

Unknown Speaker (16:09): Yes.

Speaker 2 (16:10): But the Cayman Islands. Yeah. I think we're ready to move.

Unknown Speaker (16:13): That's beautiful. I

Speaker 2 (16:15): So make an offer on our house. No. Seriously, though, the water was so amazing.

Unknown Speaker (16:21): Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:22): That might be a little too strong for me. It smells really nice, though. It smells really mild. So our excursion on Cayman Island was to go snorkeling and then to go to Stingray City, I think they called it. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:36): So we went out on this boat tour and did our snorkeling, which we saw a bunch of fish. We saw, we actually saw stingrays that first snorkel. We saw a couple. And then, the other snorkeling, we saw turtles.

Unknown Speaker (16:54): The sea turtles. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:56): And then we went to Stingray City, which is just a little almost like a sandbar. It wasn't really a sandbar, but you're kind of maybe waist deep in the water. And the stingrays just come now because they know people come there on boats to feed them. So they're almost kind of just like pets in a way. So our boat person had a bunch of squid to feed them and, everybody got to well, they kinda did have to dive down and like get a stingray, but it didn't fight too much.

Speaker 2 (17:32): It's used to it. And then everybody got to like basically hold a stingray, kiss a stingray, let a stingray flap on, on it, on your back. Well, they called it a massage, but it was really, really fun. And the kids loved that excursion as well. So I think we did a good job finding excursions that the kids actually wanted to do.

Speaker 2 (17:57): It was a good thing. And the water was so nice and the island was so nice and so clean and just yeah. Although it didn't have the topography of Jamaica, you know, Jamaica.

Unknown Speaker (18:10): Right.

Speaker 2 (18:10): Beautiful with all the almost mountainous hills, but, you know, it wasn't, it was, you know, they've been through a hurricane, but also it's just, it's just different. And it wasn't Yeah. It wasn't as well kept as the caimans, whereas the caimans were yeah. Kind of

Unknown Speaker (18:29): Gorgeous.

Unknown Speaker (18:29): Yeah. Was. That's really nice. So, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:32): So I think this SFTB is sweeter than that one and not like a dark fruit sweeter, but like a, the actual, like the more caramelly.

Speaker 2 (18:42): So it's a really high proof. So when I, you know, I, that I kind of get that on my tongue initially, but I think, you know, even like when I'm swallowing in the finish, it almost seems a little nicer than a Jefferson. Yeah. Good aftertaste.

Unknown Speaker (18:59): Yeah. I think I like both of them, but it yeah.

Unknown Speaker (19:01): In different ways.

Speaker 1 (19:02): I get mid tongue to back of the tongue sweetness on this.

Speaker 2 (19:05): Good. Yeah. So we found alcohol everywhere. And then did you actually buy anything on the boat or no?

Unknown Speaker (19:14): So I tried the Bourier, bourbon rye or

Unknown Speaker (19:21): rich brown, but

Unknown Speaker (19:24): I tried the High West bourbon.

Speaker 2 (19:27): Right. You tried a couple things on the ship.

Speaker 1 (19:29): Yeah. And the High West bourbon was

Unknown Speaker (19:32): You didn't like it.

Unknown Speaker (19:33): I didn't like it.

Speaker 2 (19:35): And that was the one with the Jackalope. Yeah. The Jackalope on it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:39): And the whole reason I tried it is because they were selling the Bourier in the duty free.

Unknown Speaker (19:44): Right.

Unknown Speaker (19:45): And I knew that it was an allocated bottle back home. I'm like, well, if I like it,

Unknown Speaker (19:49): yeah,

Unknown Speaker (19:49): I'll grab one.

Speaker 2 (19:50): Yeah. No. Yeah. No. No.

Speaker 2 (19:53): So he tried it and didn't like it. And then the bartender said something about, let me add Sprite to it and see if Yeah. You like

Unknown Speaker (20:03): I asked him if he would add Sprite to it. Yeah. I figured that was the only thing that was gonna.

Unknown Speaker (20:09): Yeah. But then that didn't work out either. Well, he didn't add Sprite.

Unknown Speaker (20:12): I think he added club soda. Okay. Yeah. It didn't work. And then the other night I had,

Speaker 2 (20:21): It was some kind of Jack Daniels, wasn't it?

Unknown Speaker (20:23): No, it was a Colonel Taylor's.

Unknown Speaker (20:25): Okay.

Speaker 1 (20:26): Yeah. I had the Colonel Taylor and that was good. I just think I was so

Unknown Speaker (20:31): That was a heavy pour.

Unknown Speaker (20:33): Yeah. It was a four ounce

Unknown Speaker (20:34): It was so big.

Unknown Speaker (20:36): I took it back to my room and

Unknown Speaker (20:37): Is that really?

Unknown Speaker (20:38): And I put it back. I'm like

Unknown Speaker (20:39): Drinking it on different days. Yeah. So we're obviously not the people on the cruise who are getting the drink package. No. We didn't get the drink package because we don't

Unknown Speaker (20:48): I crush the coffee package. The coffee milkshake package.

Speaker 2 (20:51): That's right. The coffee milkshake package is pretty cool, especially if you're really into coffee.

Unknown Speaker (20:57): Yeah. Came out ahead on that

Unknown Speaker (21:00): one. Mhmm. Yeah. That was a good that was a good pack. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:05): And we got the kids the soda packages, but I don't know. I don't know. I'm a little bit unsure if they actually if they actually used enough to make it worth it. I'm not sure my kids did. I think they were going strong the first couple days, but then then they just they just each had like one one day.

Unknown Speaker (21:25): I'm like, well, that's not you needed to have at least two a day, think, make sure that things you have to think about. We had fun. Also went to the casino.

Unknown Speaker (21:36): Yes. So we went well, first we went to bingo.

Unknown Speaker (21:40): We went to bingo.

Unknown Speaker (21:41): Did not?

Speaker 2 (21:42): Did not win anything except The

Unknown Speaker (21:45): scratch off. The $5 scratch off, which meant we had to go to the casino.

Unknown Speaker (21:49): Right. That's yeah. Yeah. That's why we did it. We didn't go to the casino the rest of the time.

Speaker 2 (21:54): This was just our one time in the casino.

Speaker 1 (21:57): Can't go to casinos because on a slot machine in Vegas a few years ago, Mike Reed and I went to Vegas for our birthdays and I hit big. I hit for $20 on a slot machine. So now you think there's a chance I could, I could hit, but my grandpa Sneddon always had this, this theory that if you're going to go play slots, you go play one by the door and you play the big money one and you max bet, you play all the lines. He goes, because those are the ones that are, if they are programmed, they're gonna be programmed to set off the alarms, you know, that you want, because it attracts people from outside the casino. So I was telling you that my grandpa's theory, and I said, is machine I think I wanna play.

Speaker 1 (22:43): And we went in, sat down and within three spins.

Unknown Speaker (22:48): Well, I feel like the first one, didn't you?

Unknown Speaker (22:51): A $100. First one.

Unknown Speaker (22:52): Yeah. The first one. And I was like, oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (22:56): I had a a spin that was like $9. And then my third spin was the big one. Yeah. And we're at $4.50.

Unknown Speaker (23:06): Yeah. And I'm like,

Unknown Speaker (23:09): yep. I'm out.

Unknown Speaker (23:10): That was it. Okay. But that was pretty fun.

Unknown Speaker (23:14): Yeah. That was a good time.

Unknown Speaker (23:15): That was fun. Well, it was fun because we won.

Unknown Speaker (23:18): Right.

Unknown Speaker (23:19): But I guess even if we had lost, it's only like $25.

Unknown Speaker (23:21): Well, I only put 10 in.

Unknown Speaker (23:23): Oh, okay. So that yeah, it worked out.

Speaker 1 (23:27): So I like the nose on the Jefferson 18 presidential 18 better than the SFTP, but this is a good flavor though. I would say they're very similar, which is interesting because that's a weeded. This is not, you do get a little bit of that rye bite on this.

Unknown Speaker (23:43): Yeah, a little bit. It is.

Speaker 1 (23:46): And of course, typical Jeffersons, the wood came off the rubber cork.

Unknown Speaker (23:53): Well, it is rather old. Isn't it?

Unknown Speaker (23:55): Yeah. Teen from '91. So that was a 2019, oh, 2009.

Unknown Speaker (24:03): Okay. So it's not that that old.

Unknown Speaker (24:06): Yeah. 16 years old.

Speaker 2 (24:07): I don't know. I think I still like the rye better, but, but I do feel like the rye was like a moment in time and I had a few sips and maybe now I'm just remembering it. Yeah. It's still there. There's a tiny bit left.

Speaker 2 (24:25): Yeah. It's kind of like it it kinda kinda like when you've seen a movie and it was really good, but you saw it like twenty years ago and you don't want to watch it again because you're afraid it won't be as good. Now that now I'm afraid to try the riot again. Just want it to live in my memories. The best I've the best rye I've had.

Speaker 2 (24:45): So stupid.

Unknown Speaker (24:46): Yeah. So I like to finish on the 18. Just look at those legs. That's just crazy.

Unknown Speaker (24:56): So I don't know what happened, like, when I went back to this, but it's almost, like, kind of, like, now. I don't know how to say this, but giving me, like, a very earthy flavor when I swallow it. Almost like dirt in a way. Not in a bad way. I wouldn't even say in a bad I would say different than when I was drinking it ten minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (25:20): So I I think that your fourth drink, your fourth sip is when you start to get the true flavors of something.

Unknown Speaker (25:27): So you're gonna hear heard it here. Dirt.

Speaker 1 (25:29): Well, I don't think it's dirt. I think it it's it's more of a, like, an old funkiness. Yeah. It's like the old Rick house, like the old Stitzelweiler barrels. I think it's a very similar notes to what did you get with the old, very old Fitzgerald or the old Fitzgerald, that that old dusty.

Unknown Speaker (25:46): Well, I think there is something to maybe to just like letting it sit for a while, sit out for a while. But, I guess that's probably a better way to explain it. It's more of an old dusty feel. Yeah. Because it yeah.

Unknown Speaker (25:59): It's good. I have to look at that.

Unknown Speaker (26:03): Yeah. I think that was a total win. That was that was a good one.

Speaker 2 (26:07): Agree. I like it. I like the Jeffersons. So we had the ocean. That's what it's called.

Unknown Speaker (26:12): Ocean. Jefferson. I mean, we're not gonna have it now. Can't have it now because we've had just had this. But but I even that, I enjoyed that.

Unknown Speaker (26:21): So yeah. But I don't know if I've tried these. I don't know if I tried that. Did I try that one out?

Speaker 1 (26:26): That's the newer one that I got from

Unknown Speaker (26:29): It's recent.

Speaker 1 (26:30): And caught that in Kentucky coming up from coming back from the dinner at Monks Road Boiler House with Bill Samuels. And

Speaker 2 (26:38): This is how I find out all the secrets.

Speaker 1 (26:40): And Wally. I opened it for us. We both tried it.

Unknown Speaker (26:44): I did? Yeah. I don't remember. Did I like it then? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (26:47): Remember liking it too much then.

Unknown Speaker (26:49): Yeah. So I think it was the night we also did the ocean.

Speaker 2 (26:53): Good. I like it. But anyway, cruise, good time, made it back. Travel days went smooth.

Speaker 1 (26:59): The only little issue that happened is the night before we left for the cruise, we get an email stating that our boarding time was pushed back because they were having

Unknown Speaker (27:11): a

Speaker 1 (27:11): mechanical difficulty and it was running a little behind.

Unknown Speaker (27:15): Propellant issues or something.

Speaker 1 (27:17): Yeah. And so the ship could only run at 17 knots throughout the duration of the cruise. So it's like we were either had to leave early or we were late at every place.

Speaker 2 (27:29): But I think because I didn't really I guess before we went, I didn't know like, oh, we're gonna be at this place from this time to this time. It didn't really I didn't feel like it really affected anything. Cause we were able to go in and do our excursions and get back with plenty of time. And I don't think at any point we thought, oh, let's let's stay off the ship longer. So, yeah, it was good.

Unknown Speaker (27:54): It was good.

Speaker 2 (27:54): And we had that nice Cuban meal at the airport, Miami Airport. La Carreta. So yeah, overall, good family vacation. So if you got a family, big or small, a cruise is a good option.

Unknown Speaker (28:10): Yep.

Speaker 2 (28:11): And they have kids clubs on cruises. So our kids, we signed them up, but they didn't participate because they have each other. Like there's So five of they were always they can always get together in some combination. You know, it's it's different ones. Maybe two will go here and three will go here, but they can always figure out a combination.

Speaker 2 (28:34): So they were always like going to movies together or just going to eat together or whatever. But yeah, I think if I had just one kid or two kids go on a cruise and just put them in the kids club and then you can kind of go do what you want, which we can go do what we want because our kids are older. But, yeah, it was nice.

Unknown Speaker (28:57): And I think we'd it again.

Speaker 2 (28:59): I think so too. Yeah. I think Mallory said to me, when are we going on our next cruise? And it's actually not a bad way to see places because can put all your stuff in one room and just leave it there. Right?

Speaker 2 (29:13): So if you want it to do multiple locations like that, especially with all these freaking kids and they are not neat, their stuff just flies everywhere. And if you're repacking every couple days, it's too difficult. I don't think we've real well, in Scotland, we kinda had to do that. But, you know, Puerto Rico, we didn't. Cruise, we didn't.

Speaker 2 (29:35): And I think as far as activities, the cruise was easier because we could just get off and do our excursion and get back on. So the kids got their excitement and we got a little peace.

Speaker 1 (29:47): And Wyatt, I think, like if I asked him, like, which was your what was your favorite vacation so far? And he's like, well, I think he's he said it's a toss-up between Scotland and the cruise. Yeah. He really likes Scotland.

Speaker 2 (30:00): Well, Europe is hard to beat. I think, you know, it's just especially Scotland and being in cities, and it's so pretty.

Unknown Speaker (30:13): Yep.

Speaker 2 (30:14): But we could do a cruise in Europe. You know, we can do a cruise around the Mediterranean.

Speaker 1 (30:21): Well, that might work, but I mean, it's I feel like you have to do like the warm weather.

Unknown Speaker (30:27): Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:29): Like, I have no desire to do an Alaska cruise. That that kinda, like, defeats the purpose of going on a cruise.

Speaker 2 (30:36): Yeah. You just have to be inside to be warm. Yeah. I'm sure it's really pretty though. And it probably you're on the cruise ship, you can see, like, so many pretty things.

Unknown Speaker (30:50): I'm sure. Just like in the pictures.

Unknown Speaker (30:51): Well, that's what I'm saying. Mediterranean, you can do all that stuff.

Unknown Speaker (30:54): We live in Ohio. The last thing I wanna see is cold things.

Speaker 2 (30:58): I know. You would think that, but it's some of the prettiest things. Some of the prettiest places I've been. Norway, Alaska, just beautiful. You're drawn to it.

Speaker 2 (31:09): You're northern. You're a northern guy. You think you want the heat, but then pulls you back in.

Unknown Speaker (31:15): Maybe if I can go fly an airplane on skis.

Unknown Speaker (31:18): Oh.

Unknown Speaker (31:19): But I'm not getting out of the airplane. No desire. Pete's on in there.

Unknown Speaker (31:23): Yeah. Well, why do we live in Ohio then? What are we doing?

Speaker 1 (31:27): I don't know. It's getting worse. It's getting cold.

Unknown Speaker (31:29): Again, make an offer. We're a pretty cool house.

Unknown Speaker (31:32): Pretty cool buyers.

Unknown Speaker (31:33): Probably the burp is not gonna come with it though. No. No. Well, maybe for the right offer. You never know.

Unknown Speaker (31:41): I'll be making the deals. I'll be wheeling and dealing.

Unknown Speaker (31:43): Well, that better be a really good offer.

Speaker 2 (31:46): Well, we've rambled. We've rambled, but we did talk about a lot of bourbon and the bourbon you found and drank on the cruise. And this, which we got off an auction.

Unknown Speaker (31:57): Mhmm. Got a bunch of stuff to talk about coming up.

Speaker 2 (32:02): Yeah. I'm actually I'm excited about your Ode podcast because I tried some of that and wow. Yeah. Wow. That's good.

Unknown Speaker (32:14): Yeah. Dan Hacker's gonna be on a podcast. We're recording April 27.

Unknown Speaker (32:19): Okay.

Speaker 1 (32:20): And we'll be talking about the old stuff. He sent up three samples that are just

Unknown Speaker (32:26): Right.

Speaker 1 (32:27): Killer. Yeah. Absolutely killer.

Speaker 2 (32:29): Yeah. I mean, I'm just gonna say, like, that stuff, I think just blows all this other stuff out of the water in my opinion because it's a different taste. It's like bringing in a lot of sweetness or something.

Unknown Speaker (32:45): It's just that

Unknown Speaker (32:46): flavor that you're just Just get a

Unknown Speaker (32:48): little bit of that grape.

Speaker 2 (32:50): Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:51): I think I think Armagnac is a good bridge between, like, wines and because it is that charred barrel, oak, old dusty taste. And you just get a little bit of that grape, you know, a little bit of the raisin, but I I I do really like it.

Speaker 2 (33:19): But that one we tried was our age.

Unknown Speaker (33:24): Yeah. 1977, and it was bottled last year. So it's it was 48 years old last year.

Unknown Speaker (33:29): I think this keeps getting better too. Think it keeps getting better.

Speaker 1 (33:33): That's like that old Forester President's Choice. Like, the second time I had it, each drink just kept getting better.

Speaker 2 (33:42): And I enjoy its old dusty flavor. I really like it. It's good.

Unknown Speaker (33:50): It's good.

Unknown Speaker (33:50): Yeah. But hopefully, you know, you'll be doing more podcasts. Yes. With or without me. We have a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (33:58): I think you have a lot of things lined up. And now you'll be home for a little bit so you can get them done.

Speaker 1 (34:04): Yes. Now be able to have a drink too.

Unknown Speaker (34:09): Right.

Speaker 1 (34:09): So, yep. Sorry we've been gone, but

Speaker 2 (34:13): Well, thanks for joining us and listening all about our carnival experience. I feel like we should get a be promoted or something by carnival. We had only pretty good things to say about them. Carnival, hit us up. Right.

Unknown Speaker (34:26): We need another cruise for our kids.

Speaker 1 (34:29): That's all for so we'll do it. Just we'll sign off like Dion. That's all for now. Bye.

Speaker 2 (34:34): And then he would wait.

Unknown Speaker (34:36): I said bye.

Unknown Speaker (34:39): The cruise director was hilarious.

Unknown Speaker (34:42): And very

Unknown Speaker (34:42): It was funny.

Unknown Speaker (34:43): Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (34:44): Him and Jose.

Unknown Speaker (34:45): Yeah. With an h.

Unknown Speaker (34:47): With an h.

Speaker 2 (34:47): Yeah. They were fun. So Carnival Cruise is fun. It is the fun cruise. I do believe that.

Speaker 2 (34:53): But, know, if you're just going on like a adult like, if you're just going on a couple's cruise, just go on an adults only cruise, I'd say. Yeah. Don't be a don't be a complainer. Just pick a different cruise line. But if you got kids, throw them on carnival.

Speaker 1 (35:08): Wait. So before we go, the the the family that was in the room beside us were from Indiana, and two of the kids didn't bring our toothbrush after I had asked them like four times packing their bags. You have your toothbrush, you have your toothpaste. Yeah, I got I got it. And then they waited a couple days.

Unknown Speaker (35:26): So I looked at their teeth and like, if they brush their teeth, I said, go brush your teeth. And they didn't change. I'm like, where's your toothbrush? So I made the kids go buy the toothbrush.

Speaker 2 (35:36): Well, you saw their teeth. But then when I was in the room gathering dirty laundry or telling them to gather their things, I saw underneath the bed was a Ziploc bag with a toothbrush and those flosser things under the bed unused. We've been on the cruise for two, three days. And then Wes said he didn't know whose toothbrush it was. He didn't know if it was his toothbrush.

Unknown Speaker (36:06): We're like, well, obviously, you haven't been brushing your teeth either. So I'm So

Unknown Speaker (36:10): I'm out on the balcony Yeah. Talking about this.

Unknown Speaker (36:16): Telling them to go buy a toothbrush. Go find it.

Unknown Speaker (36:20): And the dad from the room beside us is like, I just went through the same thing.

Speaker 2 (36:24): He just starts laughing, talking about how his kids maybe brush their teeth, but didn't think they needed to bring their deodorant. It was like a very similar situation. Yeah. Teenagers are fun, but again, on a cruise and then you can just kinda ignore them. Didn't, we didn't.

Unknown Speaker (36:47): We did a long time. Yeah. But then when we wanted to, we could just say, okay. Yeah. Guys have fun.

Unknown Speaker (36:58): Go watch that Mario movie. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (37:01): They had an IMAX movie on there. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker (37:04): So that

Speaker 2 (37:04): was pretty fun. We saw Hail Mary. Excellent movie. Excellent movie.

Unknown Speaker (37:09): What a good movie.

Speaker 2 (37:10): You should go see that. You should. I had no idea what it was even about, but I loved it.

Unknown Speaker (37:16): And we laughed throughout this.

Speaker 2 (37:17): It was hilarious. Yeah. And it was, you know, heartfelt. Yeah. It was all the emotions.

Unknown Speaker (37:24): Yeah. Great movie. Long.

Speaker 2 (37:27): It was long, but you didn't notice it. Like you said, it was kind of just it it was so bad. Yeah. Lots of recommendations on this podcast. Recommend the Jefferson eighteen year for sure.

Speaker 2 (37:41): Love it.

Unknown Speaker (37:43): Yeah. Very good.
